USA (NYC/Boston) with kids

Thinking of an October trip to NYC/Boston with 2 kids (8 and 4) but starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with everything!

Can anyone help with two specific questions please:

How easy is it to fly into NYC and out of Boston? Are there companies you can book that with or are we better just booking the two legs separately (and would that be a problem for immigration)?

Where on earth do we stay in NYC? Everything I look at is a bazillion pounds. It doesn't need to be the Ritz but equally I don't want to be miles out and definitely have minimum standards as to cleanliness etc which Tripadvisor is not reassuring about at the cheaper end. Don't want to stay in a dodgy area either.

I will have more questions but if I can't get past these first two I think we're on to a non-starter...please help!

Brooklyn is extremely dangerous, please be vigilant.

Could you try a big chain like Marriott or Holiday Inn type place?

Definitely try to clear customs in Dublin if you can to save yourself some airport time (if this is still a thing)

The Park Plaza in Boston is wonderful btw. Handy, clean, superb hotel.

Having been to both without kids, I would without a doubt choose Boston over NY with young children, and try to get out to the Cape instead.

I found nyc the most expensive place I've ever stayed for accommodation (and I've travelled quite a lot!). We got a package deal with flights and hotel, i think with ba, which was much cheaper but it might not work with you going to 2 different places. It's a great holiday but just be prepared for the cost of everything, particularly food and drink!
