If you blast your music, without earphones, on public transport, why do you do it?

Why is there always the asshole on the bus/train who presumes the entire vehicle wants to listen to their music & blasts it at high volume?!

Everyone else brings earphones...they just blast their playlist full fucking volume.

Then get offended when it's pointed out that their music is LOUD and can be heard over the in ear music ffs 🙄🙄

Apparently I'm rude for asking for it to be turned down so I can listen to mine through earphones without Imagine Dragons over it 🤷‍♀️ (not a bad choice in case anyone's offended by that, just today's choice is Swim School).

I don't get it - the entire vehicle hasn't agreed to their choice...it's not a gig.

Doubt they will be on MNs on a Sunday morning!

lucysmam · 12/05/2024 10:21

True

I'm whiling away train time on here.

I use the train a lot, the loud music without head phones is bad enough, but I also add people having full blow conversations on loud speaker - just why?

dandelionseverywhere · 12/05/2024 10:24

They think they're cool and they want everyone else to think they're cool. They also believe the world revolves around them (main character syndrome).

EdnaAlGaib · 12/05/2024 10:25

i just had a journey where someone was doing this one way, and on the way back a group of very loud women were screaming and laughing at unbearable volume the whole way - the rest of the carriage was basically silent because it wasn’t possible to try and have a conversation over the noise. I don’t remember it being like this back in the day but maybe I’m just a bad tempered old crone. Or maybe people just give less of a shit about others nowadays.

lucysmam · 12/05/2024 10:27

@WoodBurningStov that drives me nuts too!

Normal "hum" of chatter has resumed & it's quite relaxing now 😊

I think people do it thinking it makes them look cool when it actually has the opposite effect.

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 12/05/2024 10:30

I’ve done it a couple of times… and been embarrassed when I realised the music I had been listening to was not going through my headphones at all.

Suspect some people who let little DC do this might be here. Why don’t you get them just headphones and spare the whole carriage peppa pig??

Glenthebattleostrich · 12/05/2024 10:30

Because they are self centered twunts who think they are far more important than anyone else.

saveforthat · 12/05/2024 10:30

I'd like to add, please give your child headphones if you are letting them watch something on a tablet on public transport or in a restaurant.

Ioverslept · 12/05/2024 10:33

Maybe they think the music is so great that everyone else will enjoy it being shared

cakeorwine · 12/05/2024 10:33

*See also people who blast music on their front gardens and who disturb the entire street.

People are selfish. It's that simple

Absolutely. It's not magically acceptable if they are small and cute, or autistic, or your grandchild.

Glad you got some peace OP.

I don't know about cool, I think there's a certain pride some people have in displaying to everyone they don't give a shit about anyone else and bonus points if someone challenges them to give them an excuse to be aggressive and/or play the victim.

Oh you’ve just reminded me of the time i did this while listening to a very NSFW stand up comedian on public transport!!! Still cringing about the mum who tapped me on the shoulder to tell me!!!

Morto!!!

CallThatCloudy · 12/05/2024 11:11

Somewhere along the line the message "You can be whatever you want!" has become "You can do whatever you like", hence the current trend towards self-centred me, me, me attitutes.

This! When I was a teenager, my friends and I would sit at the back of the bus upstairs and would play our music from our phones. We thought we were so cool lol. I can’t understand why grown adults do this though, how are they not embarrassed

I hadn't thought about it like that but yes I agree there will people like this also!

therealcookiemonster · 12/05/2024 13:19

this is something that properly makes me angry. I worry that one of these days I am going to lose my cool and tell someone off

the worst was while hiking in the breathtaking Swiss mountains.... tourists playing music loudly on their phones as they were walking. and harassing the poor cows who were only minding their own business (I did tell off the people that were doing that)
