Telogen effluvium/stress hair loss

Have any of you suffered with this acutely and can tell me how long it will be until it stops?

Ive had an awful few months, illness/covid that turned into viral fatigue followed by surgery and surviving life with 2 under 2 and now my hair is coming out in clumps.

I honestly think I’ll be bald this time next week. I’m taking iron, vit D and biotin supplements. Is there anything I can do.

My confidence is so low being postpartum, recovering from surgery (on my face so very noticeable) and now this. Surely it has to stop soon?

Hi, I had this a year ago or so. Honestly thought I would go bald. Not sure if it was down to stress, covid vaccine or something else.

I went to a dermatologist and he recommended blood tests - I was a little low in b12, folic acid and iron (not by U.K. medical levels but borderline). After about 6 months or so of taking these it slowed down and now after a year my hair is thickening up again.

definitely get blood tests otherwise you won’t know what you are deficient in and could be wasting your time.

Thankyou @Crystalineknowledge
i went to my GP and he just told me to take a multivitamin, didn’t offer bloods but I’ll go back!

Did you actually get to the point of it being really noticeable/bald patches? At the moment mines just really thin but it’s coming out in crazy amounts so this time next week I feel like I could actually be bald!

No bald patches but it thinned all over my head. I felt it was very noticeable but everyone else claimed not to notice. It’s very distressing when so much comes out I remember crying in the shower.

Yes first request blood tests from your GP.

My GP did blood tests, but then I paid for a private dermatologist in London which I felt was worth it as he specialises in hair. He did a hair pulling test (which diagnosed the Telogen effluvium), then gave a list of things to get blood tests for.

You may not have deficiencies- if it’s stress it should sort itself in time. Doesn’t seem like it but it’s probably the best hair loss condition to have as it tends to resolve itself. Try not to panic x
