Neighbourly or intrusive?

I’ve got new neighbours due to move in on Monday (assuming all’s gone to plan).

They knocked on a few weeks ago and introduced themselves and we had a chat and I’ve seen them briefly since as house is currently empty so they’ve been to check a few things.

I'm going to be wrestling my front garden into submission today and was wondering about mowing their lawn for them while I’m at it?

Nice gesture and saves them a job (plus it’s due to rain all next week) or mind my own?

If a neighbour I barely knew came into my garden and mowed the lawn I would think I’d a problem on my hands , that they wanted to be Bessie’s and would be constantly intrusive. I’d say that was lovely to their face and be perturbed behind their backs.

I've just come to thank you all for the reminder of no mow May....now I don't need to feel guilty about sitting here with a coffee rather than mowing the lawn!

What the heck is no mow May??

Virtual signalling nonsense. As soon as they start mowing again in June there's is mass starvation of all the bugs and insects that bree like mad and gorged on food in May.

Just in case anyone can't make their minds up about No Mow May, we do a Half-Mow May. Actually, we keep it like this all year. The long bits are currently full of poppies. It's symmetrical and obviously deliberate so still looks tidy.
Bad sketch attached.

I thought you were talking about lawns at the front of your properties that were joined up!

No way should you trespass around the back of the house next door!

That's really overstepping!

I was talking about front lawns…I wouldn’t dream of letting myself into someone’s back garden!

Just thought while I was out doing my own gardens it would save them a job.

I am really not the interfering neighbour type at all - I don’t have time for a start! But I had a good relationship with my late neighbour on that side, have stayed in touch with his kids and partner and met the incoming neighbours and had a couple of fairly lengthy friendly chats so thought it might be a nice gesture.

Obviously not and I have left well alone, but as I said, his kids have been round and done it and we’ve had a lovely catch up.

The day I moved in and was unpacking, I looked out to see next door in my back garden doing various jobs. It's a bit weird. They also turned out to be the interfering nasty neighbours from hell, so if they've had a similar past experience, it might set them into a panic.

God that’s horrendous!

You sound like a kind neighbour @MintyCedric but I'd say no to this one (partly because they might come to expect it going forward).
