SATS start on Monday the 13th of May.

Hopefully your children are having a nice relaxing weekend and will be refreshed and ready for Monday.

My child has had weeks of practice papers and revision and is feeling stressed and has had enough.

I find it very sad a support thread is needed for SATs.

Your poor child. No 11 year old should be feeling stressed about these tests, they matter more to the school than to the children's futures.

DeathMetalMum · 11/05/2024 07:29

School has run a sats booster club once a week since January which dd has attended. They are also running a breakfast club next week. Children can go in from 8.15 for some toast. They have kept things low key overall.

We are going to a concert then a theme park this weekend. Dd will be too busy to think about her SATS.

The one upside of Covid hitting when Dd was in year 6

I think it’s what you make of it. Mine has had revision clubs and practice papers during school but we’ve done nothing else and will just be enjoying the sunshine over the weekend. She has an sats breakfast each day that she is looking forward to. I’ve just told her to do her best and that’s all that matters.

Our have had a few pages of homework since September and done mock tests in school. They have a breakfast club in school next week. Son seems fine, but his focus has been on his birthday yesterday. He is at the cinema with his dad today and then we are going around to the in laws tomorrow.

He gets anxious about things like spelling tests, so not sure how he will react tomorrow and when they start. We have planned a day out next Saturday and he is looking forward to this.

Not stress at all here, school did practise papers this week.

RightOnTheEdge · 11/05/2024 07:55

My ds isn't stressed at all, he's just very bored of the whole thing. All they've done is practice all day, every day since Easter.

I've told him that he just has to try his best and that's all he can do.
He knows it's for the school and not him.
I've said he just needs to get next week done with and then he's got his school residential, half term, high school transition week and their end of year play to look forward to.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/05/2024 07:56

Our house has been declared a SATs free zone for the weekend. With the mild exception of a bit of long division practice as she wants to get a bit quicker.

Normandy144 · 11/05/2024 08:01

My Y6 is feeling fine and we're not making a big deal out of it because they're not a big deal. They've obviously been doing a lot of practice papers in school but there's been no pressure from the school or extra clubs/homework. She's looking forward to the breakfast and then all the fun treats lined up afterwards. I don't think children should be stressed about these things and if they are then the school needs to re-evaluate their approach.

Hungrycatti · 11/05/2024 08:27

I'm glad to hear so far children are relaxed, hope you all have a lovely weekend

DD is apprehensive about them but we aren’t dwelling on it. They’ve done loads of prep at school so aside from usual homework, I’m not getting her to do anything at home. I’ve got a uni assignment due in so my focus will be that most of today but she’s asked to go for a bike ride later. I’m trying to keep her calm about it.

My dd has been quite stressed about SATs and had many sleepless nights She has been at every booster club , often staying late.she has spent hours reading up about them printing off past papers, marking them, correcting them.Although to be fair she is 22 and the teacher!

CornedBeef451 · 11/05/2024 09:06

This is very sad!

I told both of mine that the SATS weren't important for them, only for the school, so they just needed to their best and not worry about it.

I would have pushed back very hard if their schools had tried to enforce anything stressful on them.

RMNofTikTok · 12/05/2024 15:51

Why is your DC stressed about SATS? They're just exams, not very important ones at that.

I was like poor child for a minute, until I got to the end! Good luck for your DD and her class.

What a shame our children have this pressure of SATS in their last yr at primary. In my opinion these exams are for the schools benefit only. When they move to secondary these schools then do their own tests to get them in the right class. They’re still being juggled about with test all through yr 7. It’s nothing but tests and assessments. I imagine a lot of anxiety starts with these shitty sats.
