Defrosted Chicken

Hi - I defrosted some chicken overnight, in its freezer bag, on the kitchen side. I’m not sure why I did that as I usually defrost stuff in the fridge. I think it was because I wanted it to be thawed in time to make a slow cooker dish this morning. Now I’m worried we’re going to get ill. I’ve made a Thai curry but not started cooking it yet.

It depends how hot your kitchen was but it should be fine

I always defrost foods on the worktop. Cook until its piping hot and you'll be fine

It has been very warm here - just binned it. I get very anxious about stuff like this 😢

I read the OP as defrosted children 😳.

I’ll get my coat!

I got campylobacter from chicken I’d defrosted at warm room temperature then in a slow oven.. A VERY unpleasant experience. Then I got unidentified food poisoning from chicken that wasn’t properly cooked. That time, Gp said you have to assume that all chicken is infected with bacteria that can cause food poisoning. The trouble with defrosting at room temperature is that those bacteria can grow while you’re defrosting. I think you’ve been sensible to throw it out.

Better to be safe than sorry! Especially with how warm it’s been
