What kind of bee is this?

I have Googled but still don't feel 100% sure. Concerned they seem to potentially be building a hive in a very inappropriate place!

Possibly a masonry bee? If so they are harmless. Although ,they could possibly cause damage. Where are they building?

If it is just one or two, then probably a mason bee. They like building nests in window frames and things like that. Not likely to be a major problem.

If there are lots of them going in and out, they could be honey bees who have found a way into a cavity in your house (roof space? chimney? cavity wall?) and might be building a hive in there, in which case I would find your local beekeepers association and ask for advice.

Thanks, there looks to be quite a lot of them coming and going into the holes. I will contact a beekeeper as they cannot stay where they are but unfortunately where they are accessing will not be able to be accessed by anyone so not sure how they will manage to get them out!

I would say Masonry bee. We had 7 in our kitchen yesterday and a few baby ones this morning. A few people near me are also getting them coming in

Beekeepers deal with honey bees.

You would be better to try your local wildlife trust.

It looks like a carder bee, but I know nothing about their nesting habits.

I have no idea what type of bee it is but it looks like she has just put a new toilet roll on so must be a queen , males of all species don't seem to know how to replace the loo roll 😂😂

Looks like a mason bee. They are solitary bees but you might get a few living near each other. They very rarely sting and don't cause any problems - enjoy watching them! Those going in and out are females. They lay an egg, leave it a packed lunch and then secure it in behind a little wall. When it's ready to fly it will come out and mate. Boys then die quickly and girls go on to set up their own homes.

Although... A lot depends on the behaviour - it's not a super clear photo. It could also be a carder bee as PP said - they're a type of bumble and are eusocial and harmless. If it's a honey bee swarm (which it doesn't look like) get a local beer keeper to come get them.

I love this site. A few hours and several bee aficionados have popped up. 🐝

Ots a masonry bee, they are quite solitary. Had a bee expert round to look at ours this morning.

Pretty harmless and live I window frames etc.
