How often do you have a break at work?

Not a 'proper' break like a lunch break. I mean, how often do you stop working for a minute, check your phone/make a coffee/ stare out of the window? I am wondering if I am a terrible procrastinator or if I am about normal- will wait for some responses before revealing!

I’m allowed a 10 min break in a 5 hour shift. I can’t make a brew outside of that time. I might check my phone in-between patient’s appointments if I’ve felt it vibrate but, for the most part, I barely have time to nip to the loo or take a sip of water, never mind check my phone.

I only get actual breaks can't stop for drink or to check phone. So 4.5 hrs. retail

I work in an office so can stop for breaks when needed BUT I only do that to make a coffee or go to the loo, not to stare out of the window!

I work in an office and usually stop to make a cup of coffee in the morning and a cup of tea in the acternoon. So 3 minutes each time? I don't need to check my phone ... I can hear it if someone rings me.

Probably ten minutes every hour
Others I work with 15 to 20 every hour!
It's very cushy I know!

I run my own business and love to take a short break with a coffee but that's the exact time that the phone will ring or a customer comes in. Can depend on it. Only breaks I usually get are visits to the toilet.

For 1 hour that passes, I’ve probably faffed around for 10 minuts or so. I’ll go to the kitchen and check my phone, make a coffee or if I can be bothered to go downstairs, I go to the downstairs office, talk to the staff, get a pack of crisps etc. I waste so much time tbh.

I even have a 40 minute break that’s paid for so I’m definitely taking the mick. I still get the job done so that’s all the management team care about! One time I was wandering round the building and I saw one of my managers having a nap whilst he was meant to be preparing the team meeting!

I feel very lucky having an office job. When I worked in retail you either went to the toilet or was on the shop floor

Never.

20 min per 4h block, or 20+60+20 per 8h block. Sometimes you do shorter blocks and still get the 20 mins, other times you have two or three individual 4h blocks that don’t count as one so you don’t get the hour in between.

It’s physically and mentally quite intense work, which means they cannot legally let you go more than 2h before forcing you to get up and move around, otherwise you’d be looking at pretty strong injuries within weeks.

I complete a task and then have a 10/15 minute break. A single task (marketing&comms) might take me 30mins - 2hrs I have to discipline myself that way or I end up on tiktok or here 🥴

Change jobs 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm always baffled by these disgruntled responses that just have to mention working for the nhs.

BusyMintCrab · 09/05/2024 16:57

I mostly WFH (against my will!) and I could procrastinate the whole week away very easily!

Unfortunately I have to do a timesheet which means actually doing the work. So probably half an hour of the day overall, sometimes I make this up, sometimes I fudge the timesheet.
