It's not that deep

. . . is my favourite teen saying at the moment. I don't use it myself (although sometimes tempted at work when people are spending way to much time discussing a very trivial matter in meetings at work) but I just particularly like this one when my teen says it as it is a great sum up for many things.

Eg.
me: why don't you pair up your socks so they're easier to grab in the morning
Him: I only have to find two socks
me: but wouldn't it save time?
Him: its not that deep
me: k

Do you have a fav teen saying?

Mine have thankfully stopped saying it now. Drove me mad!

ilovetomatoes · 09/05/2024 13:48

I love that one too. Have started using it back to my teen when he’s freaking out about something. Glorious. “I don’t want jacket potato for dinner” “calm down DS, it’s not that deep”

I also like the use of “dead” to describe things as rubbish. “My science lesson today was so dead”

Justcallmebebes · 09/05/2024 13:50

Mine at the moment is "and the world yawned"

Me: Kim K showcased her teeny tiny waist last night
Daughter: and the world yawned

LOL

I overheard my two teens calling me an 'almond mum'. When I asked for clarification they explained that my obsession with healthy eating deprives them of ultra processed snack food.

I wear this badge with pride 😁. But I did then make some brownies.

specialsauce · 09/05/2024 13:54

He's only be saying it for a few weeks so maybe it will drive me mad soon!
I don't think I will say it back to him - unless I'm feeling particularly needly 😄

I haven't heard 'and the world yawned', bloody love it though!

My DD is always saying It's not that deep.

but also 'That sounds like a you problem.'

As in
Me: tidy your room, it' driving me mad.
DD: That's sounds like a you problem.

IsThisNameTaken · 09/05/2024 14:24

Oh yes, DS is keen on telling me 'that sounds like a you problem' - mainly because he knows it annoys me!
Another one I just hate the sound of is 'do me a solid' - meaning can you do me a favour please?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 09/05/2024 14:26

My nearly 9 year old has taken to using “literally” all the time in the wrong context.

She also says “bro” to me but said as “bruh” 😂

I use the saying “sounds like a you problem” haha.

Also when she was younger I used to say “that’s not how the world works.” She started saying it to her nana too after that 😄

Spinet · 09/05/2024 14:28

Don't start saying it, or he'll stop. As soon as it leaves your mouth it is a forbidden phrase ime.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 09/05/2024 14:29

Mine aren't teens but are very food of "got an issue? Here's a tissue..."

weebarra · 09/05/2024 14:32

Apparently 10 year old DD's teacher is very fond of 'that sounds like a you problem'!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/05/2024 14:33

DD15 keeps saying " Mum! We live on a rock" any time I start nagging about GCSE revision. It's driving me mad.

I have to be "chill" about her not doing revision "because we live on a rock" but she will literally have a panic attack because she can't find her favourite bra.

fourelementary · 09/05/2024 14:33

My teen wants to disown me when I say “skibidi” (is that even how it’s spelt?) but my pre teen thinks it’s hilarious as I don’t know how or when to use it so keep trying to get it in the right context… and failing. Which is pretty sigma… I think 😆

catin8oots · 09/05/2024 14:34

Lol I use that sounds like a you/Jan/Pete problem all the time at work.

I love the whole world yawned. Taking it.

And the whole bus clapped - is another good one when the tale is literally unbelievable

I think you mean L Sigma 😂 (L for loser apparently!)
Mine also says skibidi.
i love 'that sounds like a you problem'. I'll start using that.

DramaAlpaca · 09/05/2024 14:41

My DS is well out of his teens now, but I'm borrowing a few of these to annoy him with Grin

My teens' description of an almond mum is a woman who eats a tiny salad then is full for the rest of the day!

I like ‘sounds like a skill issue’ when you failed to do something that probably wasn’t a skill issue.

You are a patient saint. If my teens had said that to me I'd have been unable to prevent myself saying: Yes and this few square metres of rock costs X each month to heat and clean and the mammals scuttling all over this bit of rock cost X to feed and clothe each month and everyone knows that rock-dwellers with good gcses have a better chance at living on a nice bit of rock of their choosing, so get revising.
