Barclays bank fraud investigation is driving me mad

I know, I know its for my own good. I never reported anything but they told me there has been some fraud activity for future purchases. I didnt know this was a thing and Im pleased they found it.

however, this was three days ago and my account has been frozen since. The fella rings me constantly if he doesnt get me on the landline it will be the mobile. Despite me repeatedly telling him Ive just had eye surgery and on the same day told I have start chemotherapy again therfore can you now stop ringing me. He doesnt listen nor care that Im waiting for calls from the chemo suite or waiting to go in to the actual appointment. I have stuff to do.

when i look at my account theres large amounts of money taken by the bank even from my ISA.

he told me its taking so long as i keep checking my account so they have to start again.

je sends me countless texts asking me to authorise this and that payment like endless amounts. Its been three days now.

sorry, I needed to get it off my chest.

Are you sure you’ve not been scammed? Have you contacted Barclays fraud department directly to an official number from the Barclays website and discussed with them?

I don’t see why the fraud department would need you to be authorising any payments or touching any unaffected accounts at all.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 09/05/2024 11:29

Sounds like a scam are you sure it's Barclays?

PlainChipsandIpads · 09/05/2024 11:30

I’m 100% certain you’re being scammed.

Please call Barclays direct, number here (or ring through the Barclays app);

i work for a bank and it sounds very much like you’re being scammed right now. I don’t want to panic you but you need to call your bank on an official website number and speak to fraud asap. If we’re investigating fraud, we NEVER remove money from your account. You need to do this now and stop answering calls from this person.

purplecorkheart · 09/05/2024 11:30

This sounds like a scam.

quietpink · 09/05/2024 11:34

It's a scam
Call your bank

BigBadBarri · 09/05/2024 11:36

Sorry OP this is a scam, please call your bank ASAP

And sorry about your health issues

porridgecake · 09/05/2024 11:39

This just screams scam.

EachandEveryone · 09/05/2024 11:40

He said go to Canary Wharf if I dont beleive him and its an internal investigation. All the texts are from the normal Barclays number that asks you to authorise when you spend online.

salsmum · 09/05/2024 11:40

OMG these evil scammers have zero shame! 🤬🤬 plz ring fraud line asap before they bleed you dry

EachandEveryone · 09/05/2024 11:41

He said he has to call me from a secure number

They can make it look like they're coming from any number they want. Please call the number linked above, you're being scammed.

countrygirl99 · 09/05/2024 11:42

Scammers can dupe phone numbers. The go to Canary Wharf comment screams scammer and is waving an armful of red flags. As does the comment about having to restart because you've checked your account.

100% fraud OP. Go to your branch immediately and get them to look at this urgently

HappyAsASandboy · 09/05/2024 11:44

Call the fraud contact number on the Barclay's website. They will know if your account is being investigated. The "secure number" thing is irrelevant - the fraud team will know if they're investigating you.

LesmisPhantom · 09/05/2024 11:44

OP everything you’re saying has a red flag.

What information did you give him over the phone?

Please stop posting and just call your bank.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/05/2024 11:45

Shit, as everyone else has said you are being actively scammed right now. Do not authorise a single penny more, and go into your bank branch immediately to get them to investigate.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 09/05/2024 11:45

Call barclays bank by looking up their number on the net and ask them about - then let us know if it is a scam or not

JamesPringle · 09/05/2024 11:45

They can make the calls and texts come from an official number. Absolute bastards.

PickledPurplePickle · 09/05/2024 11:46

i know you are going through a lot but please call the bank directly NOW and speak to their fraud team

Use the number that is on your card

Flev · 09/05/2024 11:48

My mum had exactly the same scam and lost almost everything - please, please stop answering calls from this number and call your bank's fraud department now using the number on your bank card.

Lightfrost · 09/05/2024 11:49

I've had small amounts taken from my Barclays account (scammers often do this before taking larger amounts) so had to deal with their fraud department. Barclays fraud department does not behave in the way you are describing. The people you are talking to are defrauding you; you need to ring Barclays fraud department straightaway. They will help.

LIZS · 09/05/2024 11:50

Scam. Call the number on the back of your card and report that tour accounts have been accessed by a fraudster. If you are quick they may be able to recover your money. Also Action Fraud. Did you download any software, if so delete them and change any passwords.

That’s because he’s removing money from your account - Barclays is asking you to authorise it and you are
