Toddler group snacks

I help out at a toddler group and am in charge of snacks, but am getting a bit bored with our usual choices and looking for inspiration.

What snacks go down well at any toddler groups you attend?

Seems like the only way to please mumsnetters is to serve water only.

Organic water please

My children's reception class used to have mini breadsticks dipped in passata quite often!

Nothing excites my toddler like cubed cheese.

Fruit kababs
crudités
dried apricots
smoothies

honestly if I turned up to a toddler group and they gave out biscuits or toast I wouldn’t go again. The leaders should be red hot on nutrition and give out appropriate snacks. SOME kids get lots of carbs at home as parents don’t understand nutrition so I’d expect a place like a toddler group to lead by example.

I'll tell the wonderful 80 year old lady who shops for and prepares all our snacks that she's just not good enough shall I...?

The group I help run is "staffed" entirely by volunteers, and we already give up a lot of our time to running the group, keeping on top of safeguarding and first aid training, admin etc. We operate on a shoe-string, and don't have the facilities or the budget to be preparing smoothies!

Yes, she should sort herself out and be "shit hit" on nutrition because some parents aren't able to give their kids decent food.... It's definitely the responsibility of the church volunteer to resolve the fundamental issues society has with food, poverty and education....

Our playgroup just serves rich tea biscuits and fruit. Sometimes the little packs of fruit snacks or toddler oats bars. It never occurred to me to expect anything more interesting than that!

Rice cakes, breadsticks, apple slices, tangerine segments, blueberries, biscuits, occasionally toast or bread and butter.

The group I run is staffed by volunteers and we charge very little. If the snacks are not good enough for anyone, they can bring their own.

At our one they do a rotation of

  • toast
  • breadsticks
  • rice cakes
  • pom bear crisps
  • custard creams
  • rice tea biscuits
  • apple / pear slices

Most toddler groups are run by kind volunteers, not nutritionists.

Ours does biscuits, grapes, carrot (no one eats it though haha), breadsticks, banana and cucumber. And parents sometimes bring in cakes for birthdays.

I make Organix banana muffins in a silicon mini muffin tin. Takes 5 mins to make, 15 mins to bake and can be frozen. No added sugar and fruit so satisfies those who don’t want any added sugar. Half quantities makes 40 mini muffins.
