What age were your DC when they were easy company?

I have a 5 year old and how our day goes depends on his mood. Everything is very hands on still, he hates doing anything independently and I feel like a slave/entertainer most of the time.
What age were your DC fun and relaxing to be around?

34 . . . 😂

VelvetTurtle · 07/05/2024 17:47

Mine are older and I still feel that way

TigerOnTour · 07/05/2024 17:50

Hmmm it might be partly a personality thing. Sorry!

My daughter is 11 and I find her quite good company.

TinyTeachr · 07/05/2024 18:20

My Eldest Is 7 and she is easy most of he time. Every So Often She Has A Wacky Crafting Idea That Needs Support Though .

Vettrianofan · 07/05/2024 18:23

16/17

Mynewnameis · 07/05/2024 18:24

About 6

aerkfjherf · 07/05/2024 18:26

about 6 upwards

Kalevala · 07/05/2024 18:26

I think it's down to personality clashes and other influences. I was a lone parent with a child whose natural personality fits with mine and also was raised almost completely by me. I always liked being with him. Other people's children not so much.

purplemunkey · 07/05/2024 18:27

DD is 9 and we enjoy hanging out together.

fucknuggetsandchips · 07/05/2024 18:29

7 or 8. Easy going girls though.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 07/05/2024 18:29

I was very lucky and DD was an awesome toddler. So from then really, although I recall 9 being a particularly great age.

TokyoSushi · 07/05/2024 18:30

Mine are 10 & 12, they've been much better company and less labour intensive for about 18 months or so

TM1979 · 07/05/2024 18:33

My youngest is 11 now and I find him good company. He’s off school this week and we spent a lot of time together today. I mentioned to mil that I can bring him anywhere now where as he used to be the one I’d dread bringing. I think it depends on the kid. My eldest is 23 and I can’t be in her company for a long time. We just clash.

PossiblyNow · 07/05/2024 18:36

Mine is 12, and while he’s fabulous, I’m not sure titanic tween emotions translate into anything like ‘easy company’. Though we’ve just been on a 4-hour bike ride which was fun…

smilyfairy · 07/05/2024 18:37

7-10/11 were pretty good. They are now 20 and 22 and lovely company .

CurlewKate · 07/05/2024 19:23

One of mine was like a little old man at 3. He liked going for little walks, sitting on park benches for a chat, going out for breakfast and watching Bargain Hunt. Still does and he's 22! The other one behaves like a badly made firework at 25.....

Polishedshoesalways · 07/05/2024 21:24

Liked every stage

Timee · 07/05/2024 21:27

Consistently and reliably from 6 onwards. Now late 20s.
Great company from age two but with challenging episodes.

bakewellbride · 07/05/2024 21:32

My 5 year old is great 90% of the time but he's always been chilled out right from birth

Cuppateatea · 07/05/2024 21:53

Honestly I always loved spending time with my DCs from toddlers to now as young adults. As toddlers we’d go out to cafes, parks, out for dinner and they were always great company. 16 was probably the most challenging with GCSEs which was not much fun!

VashtaNerada · 08/05/2024 04:56

From around 7 or 8 I think. Two really good periods were when my DC were around 11 and 7, and then 16 and 12. Teen years are tough and little ones are tough IMO.

Ozgirl75 · 08/05/2024 05:15

Mine are now 11 and 13 and have been reliably good company and pretty even tempered since about 7 onwards. My oldest child is a bit more fiery but we have a very similar personality so I “get” when he’s irritated (as I’m often irritated by the same thing). Neither have random moods though, if they’re in a mood it’s generally for a pretty good reason like tiredness or too much screen time.

Thepossibility · 08/05/2024 05:38

My 12 yo was always good company, the last year or so slightly less so because hormonal. Very easy going.
My 10 yo depends on the day. If he's happy he is good company. But he was always this way.
My 4yo is always good company, from the day he was born.
Their personalities and behaviour have been fairly consistent from babies.

This is fantastic Grin

My toddler is somewhere between little old man and wonky firework.

OP, I'm a natural introvert and home body, but he's very outdoorsy and energetic. It's changed me for the better and we're out all the time in the woods or out on bikes. I think it helps to just meet them in their world rather than try to drag them into ours.
