Any Ideas What This Skin Complaint Is? Candida? Warning pics included

On inner thighs. Was diagnosed as a candida infection. Is super itchy and sometimes flaky. It has not responded to treatment. I am wondering if it is that or something else. I am finding this whole thing so embarrassing.

Is this a candida infection? I've never had one before.

Could it be eczema? Is it very itchy especially at night when you get warmer?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/05/2024 15:28

What have you used so far?

Is it something as simple as chafing? If not there's a whole host of things it could be, fungal, exczema, dermatitis, psoriasis. Go back to the GP and ask them for help. They can also send a few skin flakes / scrapings off the testing to see if it's fungal.

ItchyBitch123 · 07/05/2024 17:40

The GP gave me some Daktacort Cream. I used some over the counter Canesten cream. I did wonder about eczema. It's itchy, not just at night.

Unfortunately, it could be chaffing. My weight hasn't increased recently though. I have never had that issue before.

Sometimes it is so itchy that I scratch until I bleed.

Thanks for these replies.

Plus E45

If it's just chafing. I'd slather it in sudocreme and wear some anti chafe shorts or leggings for a few days to see if it improves

Frostfable · 07/05/2024 19:35

Looks like jock itch
I had exactly the same on my thighs and got it from my husband…grim i know!
Doc gave me an ointment and worked a treat

Thanks

How long have you used the cream for? It takes a good while for it to settle, weeks rather than days. Sudocreme would be very soothing too.

molotovcupcakes · 08/05/2024 10:53

To me it looks as if it might be eczma and the only thing that shifted mine was hydrocortisone creme from the doctor with more than the 1% that you are allowed at the chemist.
I think that if it is very itchy then it might be it.

ItchyBitch123 · 08/05/2024 11:54

First, Ì used over the çounter Canesten cream for 7 days. Then, I used Daktacort cream, from the Dr, for 2 weeks.

I have also tried sudocreme, E45 and coconut oil at different times to try and get some relief from the itching.

I stopped the Daktacort cream after 14 days as I wondered if it was making the itching worse as a side effect. It didn't make any difference.

At no point has any cream seemed to do anything to it. It doesn't seem to get any better or worse. It hasn't spread at all. The skin is sometimes really flaky and peels. It seems to be constantly itchy.

Thanks again for being kind enough to reply.

Back to the doctors, I think.

I think back to the GP, I would use hydrocortisone while you're waiting for an appt.

I had this and I think it was dermatitis. The only thing that helped was Skin Stuff from Stinky Stuff - https://www.stinky-stuff.co.uk/products/skin-stuff-50ml/. I didn't think it would make any difference but it soothed it and cleared it up within a couple of days.

PinkSparklyPussyCat, thank you.

Dakort is hydrocortisone plus anti microbial (similar to canesten)

I've had similar in a different place and I think it's just a case of needing a stronger cortisone cream. I had a success with Elocon cream and it went within a few days.

thedendrochronologist · 09/05/2024 09:40

I mean stronger steroid cream

lovelysoap · 09/05/2024 18:30

I am so sorry Op that looks so uncomfortable and painful. I had something similar last year. Washed the area with soap and dried twice a day. Then put on over the counter athletes foot cream, it cleared in about 5 days. I really hope you get it sorted.

I am going through this right now. However a month ago I had a very painful tooth abscess and was given antibiotics the 2nd dose was just powder (a stronger one) I started a new job a month ago. Had 2 days off due to the immense pain for tooth. A fortnight ago tried to get an appointment with my Gp but fully booked so went to see pharmacist, altho they don’t examine you I was given clotrimazole 1% cream still itchy and burning so went to walk in centre at my local hospital being told it was candida and given a stonger cream terbinafine 1% - a week on and still itching but I believe a bit less. I’m booked into to see the practice nurse Tuesday. If I’d seen my Gp sooner perhaps I would have had a speedier recovery. It’s been so uncomfortable and draining. Did you sort your problem out? I’d be glad to hear the outcome! 🤗

ItchyBitch123 · 02/07/2024 20:34

I am still itching unfortunately, Catwoman66. I hope you're sorted x

Thanks for asking, my dr then prescribed canestan, that has helped although I still have marks on my inner thighs, I also had this spread to under one arm and left side of my chest cleavage. Still itches but not as intense as was unbearable. I have a blood test booked for tomorrow morning testing for diabetes. Hope it’s not that!
