Tell me about your tattoos

I've been procrastinating taking a break while waiting for the patio cleaner to dry and watching a bit of Ink Master on YouTube. I've got five tattoos and was thinking about getting my final one in about five years (when I turn 50). Plenty of time to think about what I want...

So tell me about your tattoos! Mine are all brown/gold, I have three words (two on my wrists and one on the back of my neck), a triskele on my right hand between my finger and thumb, and a filigree key with a hidden dragon on my lower back. It sounds a lot on the page, but it's really not and I don't consider myself significantly inked.

I love mine as they are all connected to life events and my culture and heritage, so my next one will be the same, and will probably also be the same colours as I have already... although I do get a bit envious when I see some of the amazing watercolours and wacky new school ink that people get.

(I also now think I have a bit of a crush on Cleen Rock One - he looks like a guy I used to date - but that's another story!)

I have two. One on my thigh which I love. One on my foot that has faded. Both are words/sayings. I'm going to have a third one at some point, on my wrist slightly up my arm of a butterfly that's butterfly on one side and flowers on the other (sounds grim when I write it 😄) love the key with the hidden dragon!

Just got my 3rd at over 50. A cat that I designed myself. The other two are really special although the larger needs to be re-coloured. I won't say what as one is unique & might out me irl. But also planning a fourth based on a ring I have, which will be a bracelet-style, with butterflies.

I like the idea of your half butterfly/half flower, sounds very artistic!

I love my key too, I had it done after I got divorced and moved into my own place, so had my OWN key to my OWN home! The dragon idea was a stroke of genius from my tattoo artist - he literally drew it freehand, I was blown away!

I got my first last year . It’s my daughters hand writing from one of her last cards to me. It’s simple but very precious. I got it done in soho so paid quite a bit but it’s worth it. I want to get an old style swallow next in suffragette colours but need to save up !

I wish I was arty enough to design my own, that's a lovely idea. My key is unique as it was designed for me, but I would never have been able to come up with it myself.

Butterflies are popular today! That's a nice idea to have it complement a piece of jewellery too.

I have 3, all orange/red/yellow colours. I'm still working on my next one, this is the inspiration behind it however the final design will be larger and bushier for use of a better word

That's so sweet and as you say, simple but precious. My words are important words to me, but just in general cursive!

I know exactly what you mean by old school swallow, but I don't think I've ever seen one in suffragette colours, that's an awesome idea.

I had my hand tattoo done in Soho too - here in fact! https://www.thecirclelondon.com/

That's really lovely - I've seen b/w ferns but not one in green.

I have nearly done my sleeve. Didn't really start until I was in my 30s. Have a few from late teens / early 20s but then had kids and had no tattoo money.

I've got things that mean a lot to me in my sleeve. A fox (favourite animal), a bird, of which the name my grandad called me, a ghost my eldest drew, a marvel character my youngest said I should get, my lovely old cat who sadly died, a cat sat on a pile of books, next to a teapot and cup, a fairy witch taking up most of my forearm and then some mushrooms under moonlight behind her. Is a mash up! But it's my mash up

Sounds like an amazing mash up! I actually like the idea of sleeve(s) that are added to over time - it's a tapestry of your life.

I also have a ghost with little bats circling it.
I'm hoping to one day have two sleeves, made up of different designs here and there, as OP said, it's a tapestry of your life

I had mine done in frith st. It was by birthday. My sons were all in bed so I knew the promised lunch wasn’t going to happen so I went up to soho for a walk in and they fitted me in. It was a lovely day. I’d met my oh in soho in the 80s and worked in a club there so it had a soft spot in my heart. The guy who did it was very respectful and took a long time setting it up perfectly even though it only took 20 mins to do.

These are all such lovely stories! So pleased I started this thread! (Sorry if I go quiet for a bit, I have to pop into town for an hour or two - but will be back to continue!)

I used an AI assistant as I can't draw at all. I gave it specific prompts then played until it got the one I wanted.

My elderly mam is coming to the end of her life and I wanted to immortalise her in a small way. Like a pp I used a card that she gave me to put a piece of her writing on my arm.
