Help! Brand new washer-dryer isn’t drying

It was installed yesterday and twice I’ve tried to dry stuff after the washing cycle and it just came out hot and damp and the machine (an Indra it Push and Go) was emitting a smell like burned rubber.

Any idea what can be done? I doubt it’s anything like fluff in the condenser as it’s so new and I’ve only run it twice! (Getting separate machines isn’t an option and the washer dryer we had before was fine until it broke)

If it’s damp, rather than wet, maybe it just takes longer than the previous one, have you tried putting it back in for longer?
The smell could be just because it’s new though and may stop as time goes on. Our new washer made a hot rubber smell when it was used the first dozen or so times.

Just call the manufacturers because it'll be under warranty so they'll send someone out

WhatsMyEmail · 06/05/2024 15:43

How much are you drying? Our washer dryer accepts a large wash load but the dry cycle will only take about half of that.

I would be concerned about the smell though, I'd give the manufacturer a call.

What's the recommended load of the dryer?? It's probably less than that of the washer.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/05/2024 16:10

Is it a stupid heat exchange one? I have one and they are shit. Takes hours to dry anything unless the atmosphere around it is hot-ie in the summer when I don’t need it so it’s fucking useless.

FlipFlops4Me · 06/05/2024 16:16

I got caught on the washer taking more than the dryer. I'd had ideas of putting the dirty laundry in and pulling out clean dry clothes. Hah! At the moment I use the washing machine happily enough but I hang the wet things on a clothes horse. It's warm enough that it doesn't take long to dry.

The drier seems to cook the clothes dry rather than blast them with warm air and tumble. Very odd.

VeraForever · 06/05/2024 16:17

The drying load is usually about half the wash load.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/05/2024 16:24

Were the 'transit bolts' removed when it was installed. Not doing so would servely effect its petformance.

BertieBotts · 06/05/2024 16:27

Definitely contact wherever you bought it from. They should send out an engineer with it being so new. I wouldn't mess around trying anything yourself on such a new machine.

BranchGold · 06/05/2024 16:30

I’m wondering about the load size too. I think combined washed/dryers are significantly less efficient than separate units. Are you attempting to dry the whole load you’ve just washed? I’d be taking at least half if not two thirds of the washed load out and doing the drying in batches.

KillingMeDeftIy · 06/05/2024 17:24

Thanks for all the replies.

I washed 2 bathmats yesterday and 3 towels today and I don’t think that was overloading the machine at all. They definitely weighed less than the 5kg drying limit. It’s the same capacity as my last machine, which would get them halfway to dry in 40 mins and then I’d finish by line drying, but they came out not remotely dry today.

This would be my thought

Definitely sounds like you're not trying to dry too much. I'd say a maintenance call is in order

Where would I find these bolts? It’s an integrated machine rather than freestanding so a bit hard to investigate in depth!

You need to get the installer to check it. You have consumer rights to return it also.

BertieBotts · 07/05/2024 22:04

Surely the transport bolts prevent it from spinning at all, so would be really obvious during the wash phase?
