Some many lovely memories in this thread!
Salt & Shake crisps
Raw jelly cubes ( loved them as a kid!)
Icebreaker chocolate bar
Gobstoppers
Old Jamaica chocolate ( the original made with milk & plain instead of just plain)
On Sundays as little kids, DBro & I would visit DF’s Aunties. We could have biscuits out of one tin, jaw breaking but delicious peanut cracknel in another, then we’d be given 4 creme eggs & 10p each to go home with!
DM sometimes made us bananas, sugar & milk. Oh & sugar on tiger bread.

Mint club biscuit
Wagon wheels
Salt & vinegar discos
Pringles
Kinder Eggs
Lilt drink

My favourite snack was heating up tinned creamed corn and pouring it over hot buttered toast with lots and lots of butter and salt.

Iced gems

Tudor pickled onion crisps

Spelga yoghurt (especially toffee) - it was sour like yoghurt should be, not some sugary tasting dessert like you get nowadays. The only one I've tasted that comes close is Longley Farm yoghurt when I was visiting friends in Yorkshire.

I don't remember having snacks in between meals. Not even a piece of fruit. Crisps and the dreaded Penguins were for school lunch. Pick and mix comprising of white mice, flying saucers and shrimps after visiting grandparents twice a month who gave us 10p each for sweets. Chocolate in Christmas stocking and a Buttons egg at Easter.

Nellieinthebarn · 06/05/2024 12:49

raw rhubarb and a bowl of sugar, raw peas from the garden, mixed cocoa and sugar licked off your palm, bread and jam, bread and marmite, salad cream and tomato sandwich, penny sweets especially black jacks, homemade cake, occasionally I left in the car outside the pub with a small bag of peanuts or crisps and a tomato juice. This was perfectly acceptable parenting at the time,

The tiny Hovis loaves as mentioned on page 1. Also iced finger buns.
