Holiday insomnia

2 nights in the UK, a week abroad or a festival weekend. Whenever we go away, it’s a sleep deprivation challenge for me.

I feel very grateful to go away but I end up panicking at 3am because I can’t get back to sleep and the kids will be up early and we’ll be on the go all day. My experience is dominated by my terrible sleeping.

I don’t function at all well on little/no sleep.

From the organising to the packing to the travelling (also a nervous flyer), I find it all stressful. I don’t let on then it comes out in the midde of the night. I just need sleeping tablets or something to knock me out because I wanna enjoy it for my family.

Doesn’t help that my husband and I are tall and don’t really fit in a double bed so I’m keeping him awake as well.

Anyone else?

Also DH brings along the kitchen sink and I feel smothered. It makes me want to just live out the suitcase and not unpack.

I can feel your pain @onetothetwotothethreetothefour . I struggle to get to sleep on holiday too - I think for me it’s because of the different environment and change in routine/body clock so I’ll be at least 4/5 days in to
a trip before I start to get anything like some decent sleep.

however, meditation/self hypnosis dies help quite a bit. I’m out of practice really, but if you can practice 10 mins every day it’s a great tool have when your mind needs calming to go to sleep.
you can get apps to help but I went to a hypnotist a few years ago so I follow the techniques she taught me- the breathing is the most important part of it, so even if you can just try that it might help.

Thank you. I get anxious as DS9 is a picky eater and it’s I’m not switching off and relaxing as I’m worried about getting enough food in him to cover all the energy he’s burning off during activities.

Yeah I feel your pain.
Antihistamine sorts it for me (the ones that cause drowsiness)
