Severe toothache - suggestions?

I had severe toothache 2 years ago and was given a dental appointment via 111 . They started a root canal and said I needed to go back in 2 weeks for more treatment, but I was unable to book a further appointment as it wasn't an emergency and they weren't taking on patients. My tooth has been sensitive and painful since then.

For the last week or so it's been absolutely unbearable, the pain is radiating around my upper and lower jaw and eating and speaking is horrendous. I've tried every dentist within a 30 mile radius but nobody is taking patients. Nhs 111 have been unable to help.

Has anyone got any home remedies because it feels like I'm going mad with the pain. I've used clove oil and taken ibuprofen, applied heat packs and nothing is touching it

Clove oil rubbed on usually helps.

Oops, sorry, didn’t see you’d already tried that. In which case, I don’t have a magic remedy.

You could try rinsing your mouth with salty water.

I'd go to a pharmacy and see if they have a numbing gel like Orajel or buy some Co-codoamol to use temporarily, and expand your search for a dentist, try private if you haven't already and if you can afford it, many offer payment plans

Co-codamol!

Clove oil and possibly Sensodyne toothpaste/mouthwash.

If you've been unable to find a dentist and you want to raise your concerns about this, contact your local integrated care board (ICB).
Integrated care boards (ICBs) commission dental services in England and are required to meet the needs of their local population for both urgent and routine dental care.

Long term I'd suggest a complaint - otherwise are they taking on private patients - we pay monthly to be seen no NHS in area.
