What is middle-aged behaviour / mannersisms?

DH (42) has started getting angry at things said on TV (e.g. news reports) and shouts at the TV. To me (43) this creates the impression of the stereotypical angry old man shouting at birds.

Then I think that I must surely do things or have started doing or saying things that are stereotypically middle-aged too. What sort of behaviour do you think of as middle-aged?

Not only do I take my own teabags when I go away, but I often take a teapot too. It’s metal, so is easy and light to pack.

What a great idea! Why have I never thought of doing this!

Arriving incredibly early for the train.

There's nothing middle aged about that one, I've been doing it forever! The train, parties, nights out, everything! Drives DP up the wall!

I live three minutes walk from the station. I leave 15 minutes before the train is due and have been doing that since my 30s. No idea why, unless it's because when I'm ready to leave the house I can't hang around. Quite often I'm early enough to catch an earlier train to where I'm going and not the one I intended to catch.

I am late 30s and have done loads of these things since my 20s!

— Waving off people at the door
— Loooooving garden centres and planting things
— Listening to music released 25 years previously
— Finding bars loud and pointless (but liking pubs and proper dance venues)

I think the difference is that I’m no longer drunk when I do these things 😆☺️

My clothes do need to be functional, but also stylish. I think that's been since having dcs and I'm quite active.

Coming back to the pharmacy, I was in there this morning and chatting to some others waiting and one of them said, we must be old, the pharmacy is a social club!

When you get an item of clothing that you really like, you immediately see if you can buy a few more in different colours. Or even the same colour.

And when you're in your late 50's you will be listening to music that feels like it was released 25 years previously. You are then somewhat discombobulated when you realise it was 45 years ago!!

Oh God yes. I do this a lot.

Some of these posts sound like retirees rather than middle-aged people. Nothing wrong I can collect my (private) pension so am nipping at the heels of being a senior citizen.

My life is busier than ever in ft employment with teenage children/young adults so some things I don't recognise but we are all different.

I’ve done this since I was about 22 😂

Haha yeah that is weird isn’t it! I think the truth is just that 20 years and 40 years are not a long time!

Saying 'ooof' every time you get out of a chair.

Do explain the obsession with ‘space’? Are you one of those people who is proud of having empty work surfaces, and keeping their toaster in a cupboard?

For me the issue of space relates to having to clear my late parents house after 54 years of them keeping things ‘just in case’. Took me 4 months! Now I’m systematically declutterring my own house and will not buy anything that I don’t have space for! I now love my clutter free home

When you stop saying you've fallen over and start saying you've had a fall
