30 Different Fruits and Vegetables

I was reading yesterday about how you should have 30 different fruits and vegetables each week for gut health. I don't get anywhere close to that, I eat a lot of the same things. Like for I'll have an apple and a satsuma with my lunch every day, I'll have broccoli a couple of times a week, my side salads are usually the same few things. I need to try and branch out.

For inspiration, what fruit and vegetables do you eat in a normal week?

I reckon I usually have

Grapes
Raspberries
Strawberries
Banana
Apple
Orange
Onion
Tomato
Lettuce
Cucumber
Pepper
Carrots
Brocolli
Peas
Sweetcorn
Lentils
Kidney beans

There's other things from time to time but these are probably the things I always have.

Apples, satsuma, melon, raspberry, pear, kidney beans, black beans, spinach, celery, carrot, tomatoes (few types but not sure that counts), sweetcorn, onion (red and white), red pepper, green lentils, chickpeas, red lentils, red cabbage, cucumber, lettuce, leek, sweet potato, broccoli, various nuts, mixed seeds, chia seeds, oats, bananas, dates. That's just off the top of my head and not counting herbal teas, coffee, herbs, or spices.

I try to eat as much variety as I can, it doesn't take much effort at all and I definitely feel better for it. Health is important to me, especially as I age. The topic came up at work a few weeks ago and I did notice the same people who said it was all nonsense were the ones who constantly complaining how sluggish they feel or asking me weekly how I have so much energy for sports.

Doesn't always work that way, @Natty13. I've always eaten tons of plants - and have ME/CFS. I'm far too sluggish and low-energy to even get ready for work, let alone do the job and sports afterwards! Maybe some of your colleagues would feel better on a healthy diet, but it's not a direct relationship by any means.

Have you tried Thiamine @Garlicks ? Even a couple of cheap multi-B tablets, taken last thing in the evening, preferably with milk. definitely not with tea or with alcohol.

It might not help, but is inexpesive and won't harm you.

Thank you, @DeanElderberry. Yes, I've tried everything.

I thought that probable. You have all my sympathy, and I hope something lifts it off you sooner rather than later.

I've had these in the last week. More than I realised actually but we love a weekly veggie soup. And I love a bowl of mixed veg in a salad.

Apple
Orange
Potatoes
Carrots
Celery
Onion
Spring onion
Garlic
White cabbage
Green lentils
Red pepper
Lettuce
Spinach
Banana
Brazil nuts
Ginger
Avocado
Lemon
Peas
Broccoli
Green beans
Tinned tomato
Tomato purée
Gherkins
Kidney beans
Sweet potato
Various herbs and spices

I have yoghurt with mixed nuts ( pecans, walnuts, almonds and Brazil ) and frozen cherries and flax seed every morning. I eat home made sauerkraut or kimchi 3-5 times a week with lunch and I put all sorts of stuff in that. Cabbage, carrots, onion, spring onion, radish, ginger, garlic etc. I enjoy over night oats with chia seeds and grated apple, ginger and cinnamon as a snack. I love cauli and broccoli florets tossed in oil and curry powder/garam masala and done in the air fryer on high. Stir fry twice a week with assorted mushrooms, mange tout, beansprouts, mixed peppers, bamboo shoots. We love melon for pudding.

I found that once you make it a regular thing to count then it got much easier to increase it more and now we can easily reach 40 a week including herbs and spices etc

No I dodnt suggest that it always works that way. But there's a big difference in eating well to avoid avoidable illnesses and having a chronic illness.

My colleagues in question eat too many takeaways and convenient foods, their diets are far too carb and starch heavy. I eat like that on holiday and feel shit within a few days of it. Likewise carb loading before a marathon - feel shit, sluggish and low energy. I eat what I need to maintain the body and lifestyle I want, but I can't turn round and say that when people who choose the opposite ask me "how do you do all that" as it would make me look like an arsehole!
