Plantar fasciitis - really?

The OOH GP seems to think that's what's causing my foot pain. Having looked at the NHS website I'm not so sure.

PF - pain worse at night, and eases with exercise.
My foot - hurts within ten steps of walking or a minute or two of standing. Stops hurting as soon as I stop standing or walking

PF - pain in the heel
My foot - pain on the big toe side and up my ankle

PF - pain starts gradually
My foot - pain started quite suddenly, but I don't remember twisting it or any other injury

PF - pain when flexing the foot up
My foot - doesn't hurt to point or flex my foot, or rotate my ankle

It is bloody painful. I can't walk more than 10 steps without being in pain, and am in too much pain to walk after 100 metres. Not sure how I am going to get to and from work, or around at work (teacher, big school, lots of walking). Anyone who has had PF think it sounds likely? It just doesn't chime with my symptoms at all. It sounds more like a stress fracture to me.

I’ve had PF - could barely walk- and it was relieved almost immediately by arch support inserts from Scholl. I wore them for several weeks. Maybe worth trying?

Mine did come on suddenly.
Was not in heel.
Came on after lots walking in wellies

However sounds more like a sprain maybe?

Pussygaloregalapagos · 04/05/2024 20:57

I have had it. It came on quite suddenly after a tennis match. Felt like bruised heels. Much worse in the morning. Stretching helped. Had special support insoles made (300quid) gave up tennis (saved 300quid). Took a year to go!!!

My plantar fasciitis is worse after resting, but eases on a few minutes walking. Its also really painful to to rock back my foot and point my toes up, like you are cutting your toenails with more weight on your heal

This is the exact opposite of my pain. If I stay off my foot, it is a 1 out of 10 for pain. Going up to 8 if I walk.

It's really painful ! I've had flare ups and couldn't walk .

I have in soles in all my trainers now and have a massager which helps too .

Can they give you strong painkillers and anti inflammatory maybe ? You can buy naproxen and co codomol if needed .

I had PF on and off for years and I brought this which has pretty much got rid of it! I do use it maybe 3-4 times a week, especially after a lot of walking and it has been life changing! Pain from PF is actually awful and I tried everything to stop the pain and nothing worked before!

Sorry that linked 40000 times, my phone glitched!

I apparently had it a few years ago. Came on suddenly- woke up one morning with it.
My pain was worse when I started walking/standing in the day. I don't recall pain at night.
Not in my heel at all! It was much further up between the arch and base of my toes.

Did you have a fall/trip or any injury you recall? Does analgesia help? It might be a stress fracture1

I tried everything I could! Podiatrist, osteopath, only wore trainers (no heels) for 18mths, saw a physio and did the exercises, rolled foot on a spiky ball and cold rolling pin, bought a sock thing to wear in bed to hold my toes back and lost 10kg!

I was waiting for a referral to have shock therapy on it, and had stopped the physio for 2 weeks when I was ill. I woke up- and was painfree! That was 3yrs ago and never had it back.

I meant to say, if you can't get a bus/taxi to work, could you hire a knee scooter?

I had PF but never had pain at night. I was worst getting out of bed on the morning. I could barely walk.

Led921900 · 22/10/2024 20:41

My PF was barely there if I wasn’t walking, but as soon as I stood on my foot started walking it would hurt and I’d be limping. I had to hop downstairs and around the kitchen until it eased off but it was throbbing throughout.
Any injury or anything you believe brought it on?
mine was just walking around a lot with baby in pram.
i never did anything to really treat it and after a year it’s gone. But was hopping round on the morning for a good 6 months!

PandaCwtch · 22/10/2024 20:44

I'd consider paying to go to a physio to be honest. When I go I will do a bit of whatever causes the pain and then draw on my foot with marker pen where the pain is.
You might also find that buying a pair of cheapish support insoles from the internet will help you with some of the symptoms regardless of exactly what the cause is.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/01/2025 10:00

You say you walk quite a bit at work. Is it in unsupported shoes? I don’t know obvs if it’s PF but sympathise, it’s sooo painful. I got it from dog walking in shoes with too little support. I went to a podiatrist - got physio, a few cheap devices from Amazon to help gently stretch the muscles, and invested in Fitflops (awesome for PF!) - things got better over time. I hope you get it sorted op.

When I had it it didn't hurt while I was lying down or sitting or pointing or flexing or any unloaded movement but the moment I put weight on it, ouch, I could hardly walk. Was a big problem as I had it in both feet. It was mainly heels and arches that hurt. It would ease very slightly after a few steps but was painful for all standing and walking. It came on over the course of a few days. I used orthotic inserts, massage, stretching, physio tape and it cleared after a couple of months.
