Camping pod - what food can I make with just this equipment?

And do any camping/glamping regulars have any tips for this sort of holiday? It will be our first. We have 3 dc. Toddler to early teen age.

We will have a fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave.

Of course cereal, instant porridge, pot noodle type things, toast, beans in the micro, sandwiches etc.

what meals would you make for dinners? I have never used a disposable bbq either as I'm not sure on how to do so safely so any tips would be appreciated.

Thank you

Just cook 'meals' at home and take them to reheat in the microwave.

Jacket spuds and top with cheese/lasagne/veggie soup etc.

Mrsjayy · 04/05/2024 17:13

Salad and baked potatoes ready cooked chicken with the above mentioned salad. The disposable bbqs are fine if you want to do just burgers.oh you can do hotdogs and buns.

Just be aware the fridges are tiny, we've booked & stayed through Wigwam Holidays at several different sites and there's just enough room for a day or two's food so don't be tempted to bring to much from home (such as meals prepared ahead of time to reheat). We usually stay in the ones with a 2 ring hob as well which gives an extra bit of choice however we tend to rely heavily on bbq food & bread! We also like to use the sachets of flavoured cous cous which you just add hot water to.

Some great suggestions already. Didn't think to cook and bring with us, what a fab idea. Hot dogs - of course! And the cous cous packs too I like those.

Thank you for heads up re small fridge.

Can anyone explain the water situation? Like how would I fill the kettle/water bottles?

We usually make a d freeze a chilli at home and have it with Tortilla Chips the first night.

How long are you going for?

hoonicorn · 04/05/2024 17:22

We are looking at just 3 nights this time

That’s not camping 😂

Mynewnameis · 04/05/2024 17:23

I'd find a nice pub

PuttingDownRoots · 04/05/2024 17:25

Is it a pod with a bathroom? Or is it water from a communal tap?

For communal tap... buy a massive bottle of water from supermarket, then refill as necessary. Save for next time.

Beargrumps22 · 04/05/2024 17:26

packet pasta just add water which is usually either from a point nearby or sometimes delivered to you
cous cous

Tulipvase · 04/05/2024 17:28

Can you take a camping stove, then you can boil water/use a frying pan.

hoonicorn · 04/05/2024 17:33

No toilet or running water. There are communal facilities for toilets and showers and I assume drinking water

@Beatrixslobber I am aware. Hence referring to camping pods and glamping in my post where these facilities do tend to be available.

As much as my kids may like to rough it in a tent somewhere down the line, I am not there yet 😆

@Tulipvase I have seen camping stoves, perhaps that may be useful especially if we decide to do this more often. Will have a look

Cold meats/cheese/bread/salad
microwaveable rice with either a precooked chilli or curry or a take away one from a supermarket
Disposable bbq for sausages/burgers - just make sure you have some bricks or something to raise it off the floor
If you have a fire pit then you can do jacket potatoes in foil
Fresh pasta as you can add boiling water from the kettle and stick in the microwave

Invisimamma · 04/05/2024 17:42

We would usually do fish and chips or pizza takeaway one night.

Micro pizza, micro chips / fries to go, hot dogs, quick cook pasta (like dolmio pasta pronto), baguettes and lots of cheese & cold meat, a rotisserie chicken, wraps (cook fajita filing before you go and ping it in microwave), beans & toast. Micro jacket potatoes.

Desparelyseekingfreedom · 04/05/2024 17:43

So you have a slow cooker? A small air fryer?
We just take these with us. We put food in the slow cooker so that is us ready when we get back from a day out. Potatoes/ chips etc in the air fryer and micro bags of veg etc and you have filling meals that don't take long and don't feel like roughing it.

There will be drinking water taps take either your kettle up or water bottles. I would also assume there is a sink for your dishes with rest of your facilities.
