Do You Think You Wear The Correct Bra Size?

I was recently measured & was told I’m a 42DD. Must admit, it makes a tremendous difference to wear properly fitting bras. I liked one of the bras I tried on so much that I bought it in 3 different colours. For ages I’ve been living in 2 saggy old bras - not even sure what size they are! I’ve lost over a stone & a half & wearing my new bras slims me down even more. Such an ego boost ( and a boob boost 🤣)

I went to Rigby and Peller wearing a 36C and came out wearing a 32E. Sadly, I can’t afford their prices now.

OrangeBlossom28 · 04/05/2024 14:27

I definitely do as I've been to Bravissimo and they had the same size as I'd worked out myself using BoB.

AuditAngel · 04/05/2024 14:29

I went for a bra fitting on Wednesday, after not being fitted for donkeys years, and yes, I was wearing the right size, but needed new bras as many of mine were old and saggy.

One of the bras I bought was one cup size up, but the other 3 were the same size, so I’m putting it down to slightly different manufacturer sizing.

I went to bravissimo. I also took DD(17) toa different shop, recommended for fitting smaller cup sizes.

I know my size, I measured myself and used a proper calculator to get my size.

Some of my bras are sister sizes but generally I buy the right size. Have for YEARS!

Quacking4it · 04/05/2024 14:35

Yes, I used boob or bust to measure. Although now am 44 my boobs have decided to get bigger! Assume its the sodding peri. They're already big enough 😖

Devilshands · 04/05/2024 14:36

I go once every few years to ensure I’m wearing the right size bra - badly fitted bras are a pet peeve of mine though! A nice, well fitting, bra is just such a confidence booster! I’m a 32H and have consistently been since I was 18 so I probably don’t need to - but it’s ’my thing.’

Mairzydotes · 04/05/2024 14:40

Pretty much. I'm a 32 band , but the cup fluctuates. I wear molke bras, but I measure using the Boob or Bust method.

Are you sure that's your correct size op? Don't tell me you went to M&S. You may have been plus 4ed and really be in the region of 38F.

MicrosuctionAgsin · 04/05/2024 14:41

I'm not completely sure, but I have small boobs, and don't find bras uncomfortable. I think it probably matters more if you have bigger boobs.

buffyslayer · 04/05/2024 14:42

Yep, I fit myself

LakeTiticaca · 04/05/2024 14:45

Yes!! I was 36B for years but post menopause my boobs seemed to grow. I tried various different sizes but all were so uncomfortable. I got measured and I am.now 38D. Much better fit now I'm not constantly trying to shift my knockers around 🤣🤣

dementedpixie · 04/05/2024 14:50

M&S measure me as 40C but I'm actually a 36GG/H

What dress size are you as 42 sounds like a quite big back size? I am a size 20/22 on the top and wear a 36 back size

purpleme12 · 04/05/2024 14:52

Yes am sure I do.
Get measured at bravissimo.
The other shops don't do my size. So unfortunately I have to spend the money on the bras

RabbitsRock · 04/05/2024 14:53

mairzydotes it was M & S but the bras I have are really comfortable.

Yes I’ve been a bravissimo girl for 20 odd years (back when it was run from the founder’s garage and you phoned them up 😀)

42 sounds big? I’m a plump 14 and wear a 34

RabbitsRock · 04/05/2024 14:55

dementedpixie I do have broad shoulders. Was an 18 to 20 but more towards 18 now I’ve lost weight. Long way to go though as I’m only 5ft 2” & around 14.5 stone

I'm a broad 16/18 and wear a 34 back
Can you pull the back band out more than an inch?

QueSyrahSyrah · 04/05/2024 15:13

I'd been wearing 36C or 36D from M&S but got measured at a 'proper' place and came out as a 32FF Blush

The sadly very expensive bras I bought from them fit like a dream, meanwhile out of interest I went back to M&S and tried some 32F (they don't seem to stock FF) and they wouldn't even meet around the back.

I've come to the conclusion that M&S have their own sizing that is wildly adrift of everywhere else.

Some fitting tips

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/05/2024 15:17

I know I don’t wear the right size because I have a smallish back and am really small in the cup (as in, not full) but I actually have a very wide cup. My beast tissue starts right back into my armpit. My actual size according to BoB is a 30DD but these are hard to buy off the shelf and all have extra thick straps and support I don’t need. If I wear a full cup in this size, the wire fits along the bottom but the cup is completely empty at the top, I need a balconette style which again, is hard to get. I end up wearing sister sizes and having to try on loads and not getting what I want.

You'd need to try their G cup size as that should be the equivalent of FF in other brands.

longdistanceclaraclara · 04/05/2024 15:53

Yes I measure myself. Bob. I got fitted at R&P for my wedding. Great but ££££££. M&S tried to get me in a 40d, I'm a 34c!

SoftPuppyBlanket · 04/05/2024 16:04

No idea! The ones I have are comfortable and my boobs are not dangling around my knees so that will do for me.

Precipice · 04/05/2024 16:07

Not by the calculations. The problem is that the 'correct' method is one by which we end up with a smaller band and a wider cup. Yet my problem with bras is that I feel the band and that is the source of discomfort for me. I feel much more comfortable without any bra, yet I feel obliged to wear one to go out and about and to work, etc, so my priority is not 'the correct size', but something which I feel as little as possible.

I think the 'correct' size according to calculators I ended up with was something like 30D? The ones I have are 34B, which is a sister size and I recently bought one of the 'Zero Feel' Sloggi ones (which I can feel, but they're right that it's a minimal scrap of fabric), in size M, which by their size chart is too large and indeed is visible a bit large in the cup (it gapes a bit in one part of the cup as I put it on), and yet was more comfortable in wear than the 'proper' size S (IIRC it gave more space around the armpit, which was a real problem for me in another one of the Sloggi ones I tried first).

Maybe the 'proper' calculations work better for women with more fat cushioning around the ribs than I have.

lljkk · 04/05/2024 16:30

I feel uncomfortable with the concept of "correct bra size". Sure, try a different size suggested by a different method to see if you're more comfortable in another size, but it's your body: only you can say if you find the fit comfortable and 'correct'. Regardless of what size some formula says you should wear.

lenalemonade · 04/05/2024 17:46
