Mole and Antibiotics

I have posted this in Cancer Health but didn't get any replies and I'm a bit worried.
I have a mole on my arm. The edges aren't messy and it doesn't itch but it does have a couple of white crust marks on it, is inflamed and raised.

I went to the GP and he thought it might be infected, as it was sore when he pressed it. It is not sore otherwise.

He gave me a course of Flucloxacillin-28 tablets to be taken over a week.
I have now taken 10 and I can't see any difference.

Should I be able to see an improvement by now?

wait gif another couple of days as if it’s infected it will take 2/3 days for tablets to work. Then if it looks the same or if it’s getting worse, contact the gp

Have u knocked
It ? I had a mole and I knocked it without knowing and it scabbed it
Took a long time to
Heal maybe 2 months gp
Wasn't concerned. Keep eye on it and go back to gp after a couple of
Weeks. Take daily pics to compare x

Thank you both for replying. I am so worried, so I was happy to see people have replied to me.

I don't know if I've knocked it. I hope I have.
I think I'm so worried because I; have now taken eleven out of 28 antibiotics and it doesn't look any better, so now I can't stop thinking that if it just was an infection, it would surely have responded by now.

Can you upload a pic? X

It can take a couple of days for antibiotics to begin to work, then a couple more before you see any improvement towards the end of your course. Because people don’t see results quickly, they assume antibiotics aren’t working so stop taking them, when in fact they work from the inside out. That’s why it always says to complete the course.

UnsquareDance · 04/05/2024 08:40

Thank you @Mindymomo

That is a good idea, @betty90 . I should have done it straight away.
Here it is. It's on my arm, so is tricky to take.

That was it after taking ten antibiotics out of a course of 28.

@Mollymalone123 it looks soar bless you. I would suggest a cream as it looks like
The skin around it is infected. I'm no doctor but my sister is full of moles and has had some removed and she had one like yours that wouldn't heal they removed it for peace of mind. All tested and was fine.

Moles are funny things and can take a while to heal but the antibiotics should be clearing the infection around it.

I suggest going to a Chemist and ask if there's anything u should be doing. In the mean time I would put sudo cream on it. It looks like u have knocked it tho and it's all the same colour so that's a good sign xx

ICanFixHim · 04/05/2024 08:49

Skin infections often need more than one course so I wouldn't worry too much. You've still got a few days to go on this course.

UnsquareDance · 04/05/2024 08:51

Thank you all for being so reassuring. You have all done a kindness.

@ICanFixHim so true I had a friction burn on my foot it took forever to heal 😅 a year later and still has redness to the area from a scar xx

chaticat · 04/05/2024 08:51

Take the whole course then go back if not better

pepperpig12 · 13/05/2024 19:25

@UnsquareDance how are u now? Did antibiotics work? Xx

UnsquareDance · 14/05/2024 23:02

Thank you for asking @pepperpig12

I finished the antibiotics and went back to the GP and was given a different antibiotic for another seven days. It didn't feel as tender when he pressed on it as it did at my earlier appointment.

I was also given a cancer pathway appointment and I'll be seeing the specialist on Friday.

It doesn't look hugely different, although it might be less inflamed. I'm hoping I'm not imagining that, as if it would be a good sign I guess if it reacted to antibiotics, even if it reacted slowly.

@UnsquareDance any update sorry my sister is going though similar? Did it turn out ok in the end xx

UnsquareDance · 20/05/2024 23:18

@pepperpig12

Yes, I went to the hospital and saw a specialist. She pressed it, looked at it under a special light/magnifier and said it was an inflamed and very angry blackhead! She said she saw these occasionally and most patients thought they were cancer.

She got her nurse to squeeze and use tweezers to pull it out. They got most of it out . It was sore and still inflamed until yesterday evening, at which point the inflammation began to settle and today, it looks as if it is starting to heal although still a bit tender to touch.

I hope this helps your sister. I was convinced it was cancer. It looked so inflamed and horrible but it wasn't.
