How much do you pay for internet?

We pay £62 per month . Is this normal or high ? It seems too that each month it’s more and it says we owe from last month , we keep checking - we have made a few payments a little late due to not having a direct debit as previously unexpected amounts were taken out so we have forgotten a few times and paid a little later . But we haven’t ever missed and I don’t understand it !

Just wondered what everyone else pays ? We are with virgin media .

Mine was part of the Tv package with Virgin Media - prices kept going up - my advice phone them and press the button for thinking of leaving us….get through to a polite person at I think Indian call centre - stick to your guns say you are definitely going to leave - they will offer you something lower ……say thank you but think you will still leave……they will say putting you through to a supervisor ……usually a Scottish voice comes on ……say you are definitely thinking of leaving and what’s the lowest price they will offer…….I went from£82 to £39!!

Up to 1st April I was paying £18 with Virgin Media. It went up to £19.58 and due to go up to £50 on 22nd May when my contract ends. The service is rubbish. I have to reset the router every few days and internet goes off every day for several hours. They wanted to charge me £25 for an engineer to come to look at it. So I leave them on 22nd May for Plusnet, which will be £25 per month. A other issue with Virgin is they have their own cabling which is a problem if you want to change provider as othwrs are on the Openreach system. At least Plusnet are connecting my house to Openreach free of charge which gives more options for the future. I have been with VM/their predecessors for around 30 years and I am fed up with the bartering every time muy contract is due for renewal.

Wow 30 years with Virgin and you’re only paying 19 …I’m with them too :20, years pay 29 as like you say you have to barter but you have done really we’ll only paying what you do how much was it 30 years ago

Borborygmus · 03/05/2024 22:40

Around £30 with BT, which includes landline and anytime calls.

Copperoliverbear · 03/05/2024 22:40

Sky £41:50

Jettyspaghetti · 03/05/2024 22:44

We pay £41 for fibrus internet. We get upload speeds of roughly 960mbps.
We were with Plusnet and were paying £45 for 50mbps.

NotAllowed · 03/05/2024 22:45

£27 with virgin on their internet only 350MB speed. I am religious about calling them every time they put the price up.

ILikePistachios · 03/05/2024 22:46

We pay £28 and get 1GB download and & 160MB upload, although that was a special deal according to Talk-Talk because we're a "valued customer" and also included an entire upgrade of our mesh system plus a £100 Amazon voucher

jackandy · 03/05/2024 22:47

£24 with BT. No landline. I get about 50mb. This is a new deal ; it was going up to £32 so I phoned and said I was leaving due to price. And I meant it, but then he managed to undercut the best other deal.

Latenightreader · 03/05/2024 22:50

Just signed up with Zen. £32.99 a month (no landline) for fibre broadband and no problems so far. It is also fixed for 18 months. My Mum pays something ridiculous with BT - they really rip her off.

I don't remember what we paid then as DH dealt with all the bills back in 1994. I took over when he died in 2008. They always gave loyalty discounts to persuade me to stay with them. Then when the discount expired or the contract came up for renewal the price would shoot up and I had to go through all the hassle of arguing for a better deal.
I also no longer want a landline as all I get are nuisance calls and I never use it to make calls on. But the cost for broadband is a lot higher without the landline. I tried just unplugging the landline but for some reason the broadband often goes off when I do that.

Nat6999 · 03/05/2024 23:08

£36 for 1GB with Hyperoptic, they are fairly new & the service has just been installed in the block I live in. The best thing is that it is installed in the hall instead of using the master socket in the living room, which means that finally, we have a signal right through the flat where we never had before. No lagging, everything uploads & downloads in a flash.

ChorizoDog · 03/05/2024 23:32

£22 fibre internet unlimited

mumda · 04/05/2024 00:19

Advice is to sign up with an alternative for less and wait for your provider to contact you and offer you a good deal.

Be prepared to swap providers. You should get a much better price.

Is worth a look!

Willweeverfindout · 04/05/2024 00:20

£22 with nowtv

SpacesNotTabs · 04/05/2024 00:29

We're just under £30 a month with Plusnet for land-line and Internet. It's fibre to the cabinet and not the fastest, but is enough for streaming and working from home (though I generally walk to work where it's 3Gbps 😁)

Barleysugar86 · 04/05/2024 00:30

£50 with Virgin media for their top package. I had to really fight for it though.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/05/2024 08:20

Lovinglife57 · 04/05/2024 08:22

Unfortunately although landlines are dated many still have to have them because of poor mobile signal, many of these people have mobiles but cannot use them very well at home, maybe they get a signal outside sometimes but people don't want to go outside in all weathers to make calls so still need a landline. So it doesn't mean that people are old fashioned if they need a landline.

Oh know I didn’t mean that at all and thinking about it a landline is a great back up if signal is unreliable…just thought a new deal without landline could work out better but I guess depends on what kind of signal ect OP gets
