We arrived on Monday and it was raining then. Tiny bit on Tuesday morning but it was beautiful and actually hot then. The rest of the week has been lovely. I can’t believe how lucky we got.

If you’re a regular to the Lake District, what’s your preferred time of year to visit? This is our second visit with our first being in August. It feels like a good time of year to visit but just wondering when others choose to go.

TIA

We go every October and have everything from glorious sunshine to thunder storms! Love it!

We've just been and it was lovely. Sunny but not that warm the hills were too much for me.

I lived in the Lakes for 8 years and worked outdoors. May and June are lovely. Then it pisses it down for the rest of the summer (poor old families in the summer holidays...).

I live very close. I'd say May/June time is better. Come July and August it can be heaving when schools are out and weekends can be busy year round. It rains most of the time!!

Edited... the lakes and mountains look incredible in winter when it snows!

We always go in June and have fabulous weather, usually the second week. September is usually dry and warm there too

I went once in May and the weather was fantastic. Another time we were there in July and it was... er... changeable.😂

Thanks all. I appreciate your responses!

And I think we’ll be sticking with May/June from now on though we might try September and October too. I still loved it when it was jam packed but it was even better this time because it was slightly quieter.

I live just outside the Lake District National Park. I'm afraid no time of year is even vaguely reliably nice! August is often disappointing. Summer feels shorter than when we lived down south. The first year we moved here, it rained at least a little bit every single day from October to February. We thought 'God, what were we thinking?!' Shock

We were house hunting one weekend and said to a pub landlord 'I thought it always rained here, but the weather is beautiful!'. He shrugged and muttered darkly 'Hmmm. Those lakes don't fill up with sunshine, you know.' Grin

I'm local, and I would say that late Spring and early Autumn are often the best parts of the year but of course there are no guarantees. As a PP has said, you don't get lakes and green scenery without plenty of rainfall!
I'm anticipating a short heatwave between the last week in May and late June this year. We've had a particularly miserable Winter and Spring so far but it's bound to pick up and be red hot whilst my DS is doing his A levels. Then it will start pissing down again from the 20 something of June until the start of the University term. 😂
