I have been reading into weight loss injections and all the anecdotal info seems to be that they work quickly and weight loss is significant but the web sites themselves say you could lose 20% of your body weight over 12 months which doesn't seem good at all?!

I thought the idea was that they help you lose weight fast? Or am I dreaming that a quick fix solution like this exists

No, the idea is the opposite of that Hmm it's not a quick fix at all. Quick fixes don't last because people revert to previous behaviour. 20% of body weight is a lot - it's 1/5 of your body!

Lanawashington · 03/05/2024 11:14

It really depends what your starting weight is. If someone at 250lbs lost 20% in a year that's 1lb a week which is pretty good and is healthy and sustainable. I've started it this week and have lost 4lb so far but I know it won't be that much every week

Sparklfairy · 03/05/2024 11:22

20% of your body weight in a year is bloody good, no matter what your starting weight. How much were you expecting OP?

I'm clearly an idiot 😂 I just feel like a pound a week is very very small, so what's the point of the injections if it isn't doing SOMETHING different.

Very honestly, I could lose that by dieting so thought the injections would be better and quicker otherwise why so expensive

A pound a week isn't small in the least. And if you can do it without medication why haven't you? I'm not being arsey, we can all do it theoretically but we don't - why not? Why does it work when you're on medication and not when you're not?

Mounjaro isn’t a quick fix. You still have to work at it and while you are working at it, it gives you time to re-educate yourself and your eating habits. If you can go it alone then you probably should, or adjust your expectations of injections

My husband is using it and has great results. Not sure of numbers but he's noticeable slimmer with no major side effects other than he's feeling the cold a little bit.
He's tried calorie counting can lose some lbs but always falls off the rails is he sees junk food and can't stick to it. However the mounjaro seems to given him willpower and he's no longer thinking about food 24/7. So he's still putting the effort in with calorie counting and exercise but it helps with the willpower and so far it's working.

Indeed it isn't any more effective then a decent diet used consistently. But that's the point, us fatties are experts in dieting, we know how but sticking to it long term while your body is screaming at you to eat is the hard part. Without that food noise it's much easier to just get on with it.

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 04/05/2024 19:38

MJ is not a silver bullet like some people think. You still have to create a calorie deficit to lose weight, it's not a fat melter or metabolism booster.

What it does is make is easier to stick to the diet you choose to go on.

Food noise, appetite, desire to binge etc all stops with MJ.

If you can lose 1lb a week on your own, you might as well do it.

I'm 28lb down in 12 weeks, so slightly more than a 1lb per week, but not crash diet territory.

Scalessayeek · 05/05/2024 23:08

I've been using this for nearly 11 full weeks (literally 75 days now). I've a LOT to lose.

I've not been able to stick to a diet for more than a few weeks over the last few years but I've already lost 12.6% of my body weight. I've just worn jeans that I've now worn in years Grin

hopeful4future · 13/05/2024 15:20

I've been on it since the start of April and I've lost 1.5 stone, including a two-week holiday! The disappearance of food noise and loss of appetite has been amazing. it's also helped me drastically reduce my wine and coffee intake! My relationship with food has improved so much.

Every time I try to lose weight I get fatter. I can stick to a diet beyond lunchtime and the weight piles on. I’m a marathon runner so am fit but you can’t outrun a poor diet.

1lb a week will do, it’s better than gaining 3lb a week which is what happens with every other diet.
