I am mid 40: and peri.
We have been through a shitty time financially with dp and I both being in and out of work and now have very little if any disposable income from week to week.

Can't get excited about anything. Have very little to look forward to. Life is wfh/ take dc to activity/housework visit elderly parents/in laws / not much in the way of fun.

I was on sertraline a couple of years but I think they would just amplify this feeling of MEH.
I have nothing fun to look forward to
We are pushing the boat to go to a black tie fundraiser later in the summer but I will be re wearing an old dress probably and feel very frumpy.

Things that I enjoy that you might too:

  • Take myself out to town on my own, wander around shops. I especially like bookshops where you can spend time riffling through books, cookbooks are a favourite
  • Try new recipes at home. Eating out and even takeaways are so expensive so we rarely do that, but we make really delicious and interesting food at home. Tonight we're making cheesy polenta with sautéed mushrooms. Tomorrow I'm trying a chicken tagine (just made in a standard pot) with homemade morrocan bread. If you have some time then homecooking is great as it uses up time, gets you on your feet, and results in something different to eat.
  • go to a cafe I like and lose an afternoon reading a book and drinking coffee.
  • rewatching favourite shows and movies
  • I enjoy watching budget friendly videos on YouTube. Atomic Shrimp has some interesting 'feed yourself for a pound a day' type content that's good to get inspo from.
  • go for a walk and listen to a podcast. Pick a topic you're interested in and then pick a podcast to listen to.
  • Head to different charity shops and see if you can spot any deals. It's quite fun to challenge yourself and when you find something for a snip it's a great feeling.
  • when it gets sunny, go outside. If you've got a garden pop yourself on a chair outside and read a book, drink a tea, close your eyes and relax.

Hope you find something that brings you happiness.
