Don't forget to vote today! And take ID.

That's all. I don't care how you vote. If there is an election today in your area, just do it.

There are people who would love it if you didn't and they are all over the internet! Even if you spoil your ballot - go! And don't forget ID.

I think a low turnout sends the message that politicians can do what they want and the public won't say anything! Which is why many would prefer people didn't vote.

I think the post of PCC should be politically neutral. Or it could be scrapped altogether.

Spinet · 02/05/2024 16:32

I'm not sure it's possible to have a politically neutral person with any amount of control over the police. Nor how you appoint someone apolitically either. But aren't those posts relatively new or am I mistaken? Maybe they will be a good thing?

In the absence of a GE being called, a vote today sends a very strong message. Please vote. Express your opinion.

Soccermumamir · 02/05/2024 16:53

Both myself and OH went this morning before work 👍

LlynTegid · 02/05/2024 17:01

I voted this morning. When someone came canvassing at my house about an hour later, they seemed surprised that I had done so already.

Agree about the message it can send, the more Tory seats that are lost the better.

JenniferandJuniper · 02/05/2024 17:13

Just back.
I would have been more impressed if they had known that a blue badge is ID. Could have been better prepared.

MuggedByReality · 02/05/2024 17:19

I voted today, albeit in the election for the pointless non-job of police & crime commissioner.

And what if your opinion does not align with any party?

InMySpareTime · 02/05/2024 18:25

Voted this morning, it's my first time using my Blue Badge as voter ID, it was much easier than last time when I used my passport.
I reminded the DCs to vote too, and DD(20) even got her flatmates and colleagues to vote.
DH is taking DS(22) round the supermarket then back here to vote before dropping him back at his house.
There's lots of democracy happening in this family. The DCs are looking forward to the GE for a chance to use their votes on a national scale.

And what if your opinion does not align with any party?

You still need your bins collecting and your buses to run. Pick the least worst candidate surely otherwise you're asking for the worst one?

No thank you.

I'm grateful for my right to vote.

I'm also grateful for my right to decline using my vote.

Just been, it was fairly busy. The staff were very jolly for some reason.

Hagpie · 02/05/2024 19:32

We’re going to take turns when DC are in bed. Thank God they’re open so late! Don’t forget to thank the people at the polling station for giving up their day too.

Cattenberg · 02/05/2024 20:27

I probably posted on the wrong thread earlier. I don’t realise there were two.

I’ll definitely vote in the general election (even if I end up spoiling a paper). And I always vote in council elections as I know your vote really can make a difference in those. Here’s an example of the overall control of a council being decided by a coin toss:

Went this morning . Never been to a polling station before I usually have a postal vote.

But new house is closer to polling station than post box. Wasn't going to vote but felt it was my duty to. Also to see what happens ina more low key environment than a GE

Theunamedcat · 03/05/2024 17:37

23% turnout there has got to be a better way than this

Compulsory voting with a none of the above box?
