Immodium for d and v?

Our household has been hit massively with a sickness bug, I am the last person to have had it
Sickness has gone (finally, after 15 hours of it) but I'm left with the other side of it that isn't easing yet. I have yet to eat anything so I'm not entirely sure where it's all coming from.

My question is, would taking Immodium help or would it keep the bug inside me? Is it just best to let nature take its course?

I haven't been in work this week at all as dcs have had it, then taking time off when I caught it. I could do with getting myself back to work sooner rather than later as all time off is unpaid.

As far as I know, it’s never a good idea with a bug for the reasons you stated (overriding natural defences getting rid of bug). Sorry to hear you’ve been ill though - never fun! Hope you feel much brighter soon.

I'd try to let it run its course taking Imodium can sometime result in terrible stomach pain if taken for a bug.
Keep hydrated and hopefully it will stop asap.

Thank you. I thought I remembered my mum telling me this but as she's no longer here, I can't ask and clarify!

I will keep going and keep my fingers crossed. Silver lining is that I am no longer puking. I am eternally grateful for that 😆

I only ever use it if I’m away from home, where it is awkward; I’d much rather the germs left my system quickly if I’m at home.

I’d be really cross if someone bravely came back to work and infected me with their bug.

I do hope you feel better soon!

Try to eat something bland like toast - wouldn't use immodium unless you needed to go out and were worried about being caught short.

Or crackers

Best to not take it just focus on electrolyte intake til it passes

I've kept my children off for that exact reason. The 48 hour rule has been reduced to 24 hours at my dc secondary school which I have ignored. The eldest two at secondary were the first to catch it.

My boss has been great and I just wanted to see if I could hurry up the recovery!

Thank you, me too!

I will try eating something dry today, the thought of food is making me feel queasy!

Read the immodium leaflet. It says do NOT use for D&V. This is because it slows down your digestive process so you would end up keeping the bug for longer. The whole point of D&V is it's your body's way of expelling something harmful.

I don't have any to read. I don't want to go out to buy it if it is going to prolong the illness. I thought I had been told this and wanted to double check. Google comes up with lots of different answers and I don't want to waste any chemist or 111 callers time by asking this question. I will not be taking any.

Good decision. Put your feet up
and watch crap on the telly.

LittleGreenDragons · 02/05/2024 11:00

Oh okay, I thought you had some in the house already. So many people forget there's an information leaflet inside these boxes instead of this annoying piece of paper that stops you putting the medication sheet back properly (DH is one such person).

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

I'm the person who loves to read the leaflets with a brew! I've never had to take immodium before so I don't really have a clue!
