Another brutal attack taking the life of an innocent young boy. This news has really affected me today, I couldn’t see another thread. His poor parents and family, just a young kid going to school.

I hope the police get to the bottom of it so justice can be done.

Yes, it is just terrible, innocently off to school.

RIP Daniel.

Yes it’s absolutely terrible. I have a feeling it’s going to be a similar scenario to the Nottingham attacks. MH services and police services crumbling. There seem to have been more of these incidents in recent years.

That's what I said to dh yesterday. It's horrific.

He went to the same school as Grace O'Malley-Kumar.

So devastating. The pain his parents must be feeling is too much to imagine. Like many of us here, my own teens were doing the exact same thing at the same time yesterday morning. Mine came home safely, I'm so sorry that Daniel didn't.

LadyWhitwell · 01/05/2024 21:00

So heartbreaking.

mumofthemonsters808 · 01/05/2024 21:03

I don’t think there is anyone who is not upset by this, a young innocent boys life taken and his poor family’s life destroyed, it’s horrific and it seems to be happening more often. I keep glancing at my 14 year Som and pray to God he will always be safe from harm.

the80sweregreat · 01/05/2024 21:04

Such a lovely young man , off to school as he did every morning and his life taken from him.
It's so tragic and senseless and his family must be devastated. It's just awful.
The lady policewoman will now endure years of physio on her hand and will take time to recover. It is just beyond words :(

I wonder how qualified some of the MH service workers are sometimes as I can't believe that everyone who does this has bad MH. It seems like a rather convenient reason tbh.

RIP Daniel 💐

Why would anyone do this sort of thing if they had good mental health? Have you ever heard of that happening?

BirthdayRainbow · 01/05/2024 21:25

Spacecrispsnack · 01/05/2024 20:34

I always wonder how police are so quick to discount terrorism as a cause when it’s a white perpetrator. Maybe it’s when they realise it’s someone with serious MH problems they’ve encountered before?

I think I read he was released from custody the day before.

Some people kill others because they are bad and or evil. Not everyone is poorly.

watersoul · 01/05/2024 21:29

it is just so terribly sad and appalling. The poor boy and his family.

PassingStranger · 01/05/2024 22:06

It's not just this murder it's all the time. A few ago a girl was stabbed on a bus on the way to school.
A couple of years ago a girl was stabbed in the neck in Liverpool.
Boxing Day a man was stabbed in a nightclub.

It's never ending and it's not going to get any better is it.
Nobody seems to know how to stop it?

ThisHumanBean · 01/05/2024 22:08

after reading yesterday that a 14yr old was among the victims i was almost dreading the release of a picture. And i felt devastated for that boy when i saw his picture today, can’t imagine the scale of loss his family feels. Just walking to school. Unbearable.

Delawear · 01/05/2024 22:10

Utterly heartbreaking 💔

Leeksinthesun · 01/05/2024 22:11

That picture of him 😓😓😓

Will you still be saying this if the killer turns out to be a paranoid schizophrenic acting under terrible delusions?

He still took that young boy's life.

Guavafish1 · 01/05/2024 22:19

My first impressions was a race related attack.

Under this Tory government things have really worsened. The lack of police and mental health service is terrible.

Unfortunately I believe this type of attack could occur again.

Very sad for the family

Grandmasswagbag · 01/05/2024 22:23

Mental health related or not, It does seem the use of knives in attacks is out of control. We don’t tend to hear about it day to day but it dies rear its head in media once in while.

I hope to god this isn’t true and if it is…well I have no words. We need serious change in this country so so badly.

Pigeonqueen · 01/05/2024 22:26

This and the recent Sydney mall stabbings and the Nottingham ones last year. Just horrendous. What on earth is happening to our mental health as a society? I’ve noticed since Covid particularly there are so many more visibly distressed and mentally unwell people walking about. It’s really frightening. (And I say that as someone with a parent who had schizophrenia and a husband who has bipolar, I know not everyone with a mental illness is violent, but more support is needed, for everyone’s sakes).

TokyoSushi · 01/05/2024 22:26

Absolutely horrendous, what a beautiful boy, I've been thinking about it all day. DS is a very similar age and I wave him off every morning, I can't even imagine never seeing him again, his poor family.

The nightclub one shook me to the core. How many of us have brushed past someone on a night out but that man went to lengths to find Cody and track where he was that night. It’s just awful

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 01/05/2024 22:29

Absolutely horrific. Poor Daniel, what a beautiful boy

What’s happened is mental health services are practically non-existent. NHS waiting lists are years long, social and healthcare budgets and services have been decimated and people are simply not getting the help they need. These types of horrific incidents will happen more frequently. It makes me so mad watching Sunak offer his condolences, shortly after announcing further cuts to ‘benefit scroungers’ with mental health problems.

Absolutely.

My own son is now receiving less than useless sessions with CAMHS after waiting 2.5
years for the privilege. He has severe anxiety and mental health issues - he is 11 - and has learning disabilities. Their idea of helping him is a set of 8 weekly sessions where they sit and go through a PowerPoint CBT presentation. It is ridiculous and I am so angry about it all. He was medically signed off from school with anxiety for a year. We could have done a CBT course online ourselves in that time - and we did. Robust help and intervention is just not available.
