Globus Pharyngeus/Globus sensation - anyone else have this?

I've been borderline underactive thyroid for years, not enough to be put on meds.

For a while I've felt on and off like there's something in my throat. Not like a forge in object but like the area round my thyroid is tighter/restricted.

Sometimes when I swallow it clicks.

It's really annoying and sometimes distressing as it feels restrictive.

The GP said it's not my thyroid it's globus sensation due to anxiety.

I do have bad anxiety.

Just wondering if anyone's managed to get rid of it as it feels horrible and I don't want to delay with this forever.

Yes, just been diagnosed with this, I've had the sensation in my throat for about a year and a half now. Hospital specialist wasn't remotely bothered in and out within five minutes "lose weight" nothing else suggested .

It went eventually.

Then I replaced it with a new physical symptom of anxiety. You name it, I've done them all.

What worked was effective treatment of the anxiety- combination of counselling, antidepressants and lifestyle changes.

My daughter has this, hers is partly caused by allergic rhinitis but also she has vocal chord dysfunction which creates a tight sensation in her throat. Respiratory physio gave her breathing exercises which help a lot but we are still battling the rhinitis.

I regularly have panic attacks and palpitations but I think this is much worse.

I really hope it isn't permanent. I'm glad yours was not.

Look up Silent Reflux. May well be the issue.
Perhaps worth trying a week of Omeprazole to see if it improves?

I've had this when I was really stressed at work. I'd second Omeprazole as this worked for me

I had this, took about 18 months to go. It came on after a stressful time at work. It stopped when I got a handle on my stress, it slightly comes back if I get anxious. (I also have silent reflux.) Anxiety, and not being able to handle stress, was/is the worse menopause symptom for me.

This is probably not going to help anyone but I have become sick and tired of being anxious. So for the last few weeks I have been living fearlessly - battling away any anxious thoughts or worrying about the future, trying to live in the now as soon as possible. My stress at work was me trying to make myself as small as possible at work to appease a bully. Which didn't work. So I have gone the opposite way. I act confident so I become confident. I don't dumb myself down, speak up, head high - which is what I used to be like before being ground down. Giving up alcohol has been a massive help - sleep like a baby, no getting up at 3am dehydrated and with the anxious thoughts keeping me company on the sofa in the dark. I have lost weight too, giving up alcohol and weightloss are both good for reflux.

I really recommend sleeping on a bed wedge. It really helps. My anxiety also affects my reflux.
