Weird feelings about buildings

I may be the only person that gets this…

a certain style of house really resonates with me. I get the warm and fuzzys from them. Specially turn of the century homes from late Victorian to 1930s.

It’s beyond admiring, just looking at them gives me an immense sense of comfort.

What is that?! Former life memories?!

I’ll attach some pictures.

I think the first one looks like it could be smiling. A proper big beaming smile! I love those houses.

Think that wasn't the weird answer you were looking for Grin

I’d say it’s a subliminal reaction to the correct use of proportion and possibly materials.
When we see a house, for example, that seems to jar the senses it’s often down to the eaves not overhanging enough for the rest of the building or the roof angle is just wrong.

I don’t think it’s down to life’s experiences. You can hate buildings that you’ve known all your life but love ones you see only once.

It’s so strange, I never get the same feeling from anything more modern!

I get the same feeling from these walls, especially if they have lichen!

The first makes me feel “dystopian plant apocalypse” 🤣

The second….I'm not sure how I feel. But I don’t think it’s good!

The Prairie Chicken
thoughts
just going a bit ‘out there’ now

Ps
All that blue glass on Shinenkan is from slag at the local gin factory ( just an extra bit of fun info there OP )

Youd make a great Critique at Architectural schools.
I love your descriptions

So that’s by another famous American architect Herb Green. Original concept, as it’s in the middle on nowhere near Oklahoma, is the chicken.

It’s another building celebrating gin as well, when I was there there were empty gin bottles strewn everywhere. ( The owner was an alcoholic it wasn’t part of the design concept 🤪)
That gin factory does well !

I get this!

I think it's memories of houses when I was a kid, either in films or my friends house or just that we drove past. I adore looking at houses and fantasising about my life there and what I would do.

There's a US air base in Bicester that I go to and it gives me a feeling as if I was in the war and remember what it was like but I know it's just so "of its time" and I only know it from films etc.

Kandalama was designed to blend in to it's surroundings and it does, it is a magnificent place.

Agree.
Its just amazing.
We honeymooned there and took our kids back recently.
When we honeymooned it wasn’t long built so all that greenery hadn’t grown but now with it covered as was the original intention and a planning requirement it is just heavenly.
