TB!!

Anyone put my mind at rest please? I’ve tried contacting my Gp surgery today with no luck so left stuck not knowing whether to worry or not.

relative recently passed away fairly suddenly. His recent death certificate states they had active TB as well as other issues... despite not knowing he had it. Relative would have been vaccinated as far as I know, I am vaccinated but I believe that they stopped doing this routinely in the UK a few years ago!

anyway, I did not see said relative more than once or twice a year so you’d think the risk would be minimal HOWEVER I have much regular and closer contact with another relative who had daily contact with deceased relative who had TB. Deceased relative was at their house almost daily. I’ve been in that house a lot. Other relatives also visited them in the funeral home before they knew about TB - I did not visit. Not sure what the risk is after death? Sorry morbid post. Doctors haven’t wanted to know or advise.

who will be contacted regarding screening?! I have severe anxiety and this is adding to it.

Thanks. It said active.

also I’ve not spoke to a Gp as I couldn’t get past the receptionist! Couldn’t send off an online query as they had shut down their service for the day 🫣

A few years ago a colleague in my office contracted TB on a trip home (outside the UK).

All staff were notified and we had Public Health England in the office to assess who needed screening. I’m pretty sure that the criteria for screening was that staff would have to spend 8 hours plus per day with our infected colleague to be deemed at risk of contracting TB. Very few of us needed to be screened, not even those of us who worked closely / shared the lunch room with our colleague.

I think you are unlikely to be at risk or offered screening, but as the PP suggested you could pay for private screening if you are anxious about it.

what kind is it?
human or bovine?
lung or bone?

bovine & bone is apparently the more common from ingesting raw milk product. this form doesn't spread human to human.

the lung kind spreads more easily but you need very close prolonged contact.

Not sure on human or bovine. It was only determined after death!
