Do you think you can learn to walk in heels?

I'm not a heel person.

I have one pair of black Mary Jane heels that I've had for about ten years, they are comfy

I get married in 5 months.

I've seen the most gorgeous pair of light blue heels on Etsy (£100 though!) the heel is not stiletto high, not kitten, somewhere in between.

If I got them and spent the next five months tottering round the house do you think I could learn to BE in them all day?

I don't see why not, as long as they fit well. Whatever shoes you wear it probably makes sense to wear them round the house anyway, to wear them in a bit and make sure you don't get blisters on the day.

DD wore her bridesmaid shoes at work for months. I would suggest you also buy a pair of bridal trainers to change into for dancing.

Is your wedding dress floor length?

Definitely. I used to wear heels every day to work 20-odd years ago, I could dash across the city in them and my feet never ached. I must have started wearing them one day and I'm sure they wouldn't have felt that comfy at first - I can't remember it happening, but I must have built up a tolerance quickly or I'd have given up.

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 30/04/2024 06:16

To some extent, yes.

But why would you?

Heels look stupid IMO. Genuinely stupid. Why would you make yourself uncomfortable on your wedding day, when you could look much better in comfort?

Heels are a throwback, I don't get them at all.

You can train yourself into them absolutely. Takes some time. My friend who’s a dancer had to wear heels for a show and she wore them round the house with ankle weights on. Once you’re used to that wearing them without ankle weights is a breeze. She said the Evri driver gave her some funny looks answering the door in trackies, high heels and sandbags round her ankles though.

I'd just buy some shoes I was already comfortable wearing in that colour if I loved it. Heels look odd and dated these days.

HollyKnight · 30/04/2024 06:28

I've never been able to. I don't know if I'm dyspraxic or if I just have weak ankles, but I always go over on my ankle in anything other than flats. You might be able to learn to walk in heels, though, if it has just a personal choice to not wear them rather than being physically unable to. Start just wearing them around the house. But be careful coming up to the wedding. You really don't want an injury then!

Cobra71 · 30/04/2024 06:29

With some practice and comfy shoes, you can totally learn to rock those heels for your wedding, but if you're not a fan, consider sticking to what you're comfortable with or opting for bridal trainers for dancing.

rockingbird · 30/04/2024 06:32

Yes! If you're able to walk outside in the garden in them on the patio even better. I wore so many variations of high heels when I worked in London and always broke them in for a week or two just in the office 🫣 very rarely did I give up on a pair of shoes.. I loved them all lol. Go for it.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 30/04/2024 06:36

To go against the grain here, I love heels and was used to walking in them when I got married, but since I was wearing a floor length wedding dress I wore flat shoes on my wedding day and it was the best decision. You're going to be standing up for a really long time. Save the heels for an occasion where people can actually see them, and where you're not spending so long on your feet.

UnravellingTheWorld · 30/04/2024 07:04

I wore my favourite comfy trainers on my wedding day. No one could see my feet and I regret nothing. You do an awful lot of standing and walking around!

(my mother was horrified and desperately tried to convince me to let her buy me new trainers, but what was the point)

ViscountessMelbourne · 30/04/2024 07:12

Heels in general probably yes, but those particular shoes may simply not work for you when you try them on, so don't get too fixated.

MessyNeate · 30/04/2024 07:14

I've so far ordered 7 pairs of flat shoe/sandals and sent them back. At this point I'll be barefoot Grin

We used to wear heels all day to work and dance till 2 / 3 am in them.
Different times.

Personally I wouldn't waste £100 on shoes that you know you can't walk in.
