Train strikes - can some explain what they are actually striking for?

Booked to take a rather long train journey for work along Cross Country network and it seems there will now be strike action on the day I’m due to travel. The date cannot be moved and due to child care arrangements and other work appointments I am unable to leave earlier. Flying isn’t an option due to times so train is ideal as I can get a few hours work in.

Can somebody explain the reason for the strikes this time? From what I’ve read, the reason seems to be that RMT have been ‘omitted’ from any discussions and have staged a strike until their members have appropriate representation. Is that true? Who is to blame for stalling the negotiations? How can this be resolved do you think? Looking for some balanced views to understand.

I don’t know, but I’m get VERY fed up of these strikes. They are massively affecting students and teachers during peak exam season. I guess that’s the plan, but my sympathy has run out. If staff aren’t happy then there are other jobs available and the laws of supply and demand should then rectify the situation.
