What were your girls with ASD like as toddlers?

My DD (2 yrs 8 months) is struggling with nursery at the moment, she says it is too loud. The staff have said she is much happier in smaller groups, comes into her own when the other children are napping so it's quieter, and will often take herself off somewhere quiet.

This, combined with a few other things (e.g walking on toes) has led DH and I to have a conversation about whether she could possibly have ASD.

She doesn't have any of the 'classic' symptoms like a speech delay or lack of eye contact - in fact her speech is amazing and she's very sociable when DH and I are around. But I've read and been told that in girls things can present very differently, so I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences? TIA!

My dd has many of these in a very mild way eg 2 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Won't spontaneously do her one small job in house without prompting.
Very bright mild mannered almost too much.
Very mild clothing sensitivity but only on obvious things never pronounced.
Very very mild food dislikes eg mushroom and mash.

Hi do you happen to remember how your darling daughter was around 2 ? I struggle with my 22 months old a bit xx

She was a dream! Very mild temper tantrum at usual age but very good. No issues.
It's only as she's got older it's like she has a thinner protective shell.
Her sister is extremely strong willed and stubborn and the difference is stark.

Very limited speech(6-10 words at 3) Lots of hand leading to get what she wanted.
Very frustrated, would bang her head from the wall. Sensory seeker (jumping, rocking, oral stims) and sensory avoider (sunlight/blender/hand dryer)
Never noticed/no emotion when I went to collect her from creche.
Didn't point/clap/show joint attention.
Always loved pretend play.

Now at 6 after lots of SLT/OT/ Play therapy attends mainstream school with support ,has a few friends, chats away and recognizes her sensory diet: will ask for her ear defenders/sunglasses/ gloves according to her needs.
And still loves pretend play.

I can relate so much …my dd is very mild tempered but gets anxious in social situations , but then again she waves good morning and hello to people who approach us .. Was she okay language wise ? Did she get a diagnosis in the end ? Xx
