Unidentified allergic reaction - thoughts?

I just had a weird allergic reaction to something that made me really sneezy (fairly common) but then for the first time I felt the roof of my mouth and throat get a little swollen and I felt a bit wheezy. I took some Piriton and it eased, but I just crashed out and slept for 2+ hours.

I often sneeze a lot (10+ times in a row, like a sneezing fit - this happens multiple times a week) but the throat swelling has freaked me out somewhat, as it’s never happened before and I know that’s a serious sign something is wrong.

I’m sensitive to dust but am not aware of any other allergies, and was not doing anything unusual when the reaction happened. I feel uncomfortable not knowing what caused the swelling reaction. I know allergies get progressively worse but if I don’t know what caused it, how can I avoid further exposure? Any suggestions?

I’m assuming you weren’t eating anything and hadn’t just finished a fruit salad or something.
Were you indoors? Could it have been a extra bad dust reaction?
Could it be fragrance? Any newish candles, cleaning products, toiletries etc?
Do you have any animal sensitivities? Were you in a place that may have had animals in it (possible rodent allergy)
You may be able to get referred for patch tests through your GP

This is the 'dangerous' sort of allergic reaction, where it affects your breathing. Strangers on MN won't be able to diagnose you but think back to the time it happened and think about all the allergen sources: air, food, touch etc. Think whether any of those have made you sneeze before. Because often allergic reactions escalate over time. Think in real detail about everything and usually it has to be one thing in particular.

Thanks for the tips.

Thinking back, I was at home and had just done some laundry of my dog’s bedding. I’ve had her for 10 years, so really hope it’s just one of the woolly blankets.

Wool has made me really sneeze before, so perhaps it’s that. How on earth do you avoid wool?!
