Try Zinc and Castor Oil ointment. See if you can get hold of a pair of cotton gloves. Smother the area in the ointment before bed a put glove on. If no improvement see GP. Hope it resolves soon.

Ask in a chemist tomorrow - they are generally very good with skin complaints and able to recommend the best treatment.

Hydromol is very effective (applied as a cream and used as a handwash). It can be bought OTC or prescribed.

It does look like it. But equally it could be anything else. As PP said, be mindful of your soap/ anything chemical you put near your hands. An otc steroid cream would probably sort it for you short term. Are you particularly stressed ATM? My mum started suffering in her 50s, never had it before, it was basically a stress response. I've had it since I was a baby and have had lots of treatments and types over the years. It's a strange thing that pops up very unexpectedly.

Also, if it's any help at all, I used to get a cream from a herbalist called Dr Dilis Clare, Google Dr Clare apothecary. She's based in Ireland, so might not suit, but her stuff was great for me. There are no steroids in the creams so you can slap on as much as you like and it was very soothing.

It looks like dyshidrotic eczema. Was it intensely itchy before it started to dry out?

No I know what type of itching you mean though where it's painful

It started painlessly peeling and then decelerating into this sore

My whole body is very dry for some reason

Thankfully it is improving today and went to pharmacy and got some hydrocortisone

I had similar and tried various things that didn't help and it eventually spread over my whole hands. I went to the gp and he prescribed steroid cream and an emmoliant. It cleared up pretty quickly.

thedendrochronologist · 29/04/2024 20:23

Being honest I have given up on the GP.

Can never call to make appointments and when I make them online they always call me when I say I am not available i.e teaching a class of children!
