Vauxhall Grandland - real life reviews.

We're in the very, very early stages of looking at a new (to us) car.

DH is in pain driving our current car (a yeti).

I want good MPG.

So far the Vauxhall grandland is looking like a good option.

We've looked at a jogger, Octavia, superb, Astra.

We need something for big, tall people (us), easy to get in and out of (me, older relatives) decent boot space. Quieter ride inside would be nice.

Doesn't have to have a fancy trim level.

Don't want to send more than £17,000 really and will take a personal loan of about £11,000 to pay for the car.

Hoping for some real life reviews from Mumsnetters please.

Grandlands are (French and) shit.

Go Japanese (not French infiltrated Nissan) - maximum reliability.

Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Lexus NX or Mazda CX-5.

Whats causing the pain about the Yeti, I have my eye on this in a few years time when my current car is run into the ground (it would be an 08 model onwards I think, automatic)

@soupfiend my DH is 6'4 and his knee is incredibly sore. We've had it for 10 years and he can no longer adjust the seat to drive pain free.

Vauxhall? Avoid avoid avoid! I had a Mokka 4WD under guarantee, the propshaft needed replacing. Vauxhall kept me waiting 8 months (while it sat on my drive) before finally admitting that the part was no longer available. Best to avoid any Stellantis Group car or 4WD, and buy a Japanese 2WD one instead, more reliable and less to go wrong.

As a family we've been running various Vauxhall models for the last 21 years. Never had a moment's trouble with any of them. We find them very good value for money, both in terms of purchasing and running costs.

Skoda Octavia (Estate preferably) or if you can stretch to afford it an Skoda Superb. I've driven hundreds of cars over the years due to having a sales garage for 15 years and I've always gone back to Skoda for the best value for money regarding reliability, comfort and space. I currently own a Superb Combi (what they call an estate) L&K and the space in it is wonderful. My husband is a big tall man and he's very happy to drive it or be a passenger, the leg room is amazing front and back and the boot is huge. Mine is high spec but I've owned the basic models and been really happy with them too. I'd highly recommend test driving one.
