Guests cancelling

My child celebrates her first holy communion soon. Everything is organised for it. The problem is, quite a few guests (family and friends) are now unfortunately unable to go, which is making me feel rather sad and disappointed, as it’s going to look somewhat a poor turnout for my girl. I don’t know what to do, thinking of cancelling the function but don’t want to be a spoilsport (but painfully aware it will be an empty hall) 😟

Anybody experienced this before and if so how did they overcome it? Thanks.

Does she have any friends making their communion on the same day that you could co-host a party with?

It’s a shame you’ve had so many cancellations but I wouldn’t write the whole party off. Manage her expectations and celebrate with the loved ones who will be there, there will still be plenty of attention.

I had considered it but everyone else has made their own arrangements.

I would half the hall decorate where you are sitting and entertaining see if the hall has dividers so it doesn't look empty and just let her have her day,

When we had our dc's fhc we had a big joint party at the Catholic Club club with the other kids doing theirs at the same time. But just edited as you can't do that. Another time we just had a party in the garden.

And yes definitely manage her expectations tell who is coming over and over so that sticks with her and just mention that aunty whoever can't make it.

How many are coming? If there are only going to be a few people can you cancel the hall and do the party at home, so it's more intimate.
