CMPA Mums - How/When Did You Start Weaning Your Baby?

Hello,

My DD is 5 months old tomorrow and as we start to get closer to the six month old mark I've started turning my thoughts to her weaning journey more now.

She has a CMPA and is currently prescribed Neocate and Omeperazole.

I'm not sure where to start and when I should start? Do I wait for bang on six months? Has anyone tried BLW with a baby who has CMPA?

Any food recommendations would be appreciated too. Both recipies and ready made baby food for emergencies/on the go.

My daughter hasn't been to see a dietician yet and the appointment they've offered is for a month after she should start weaning so can't really ask the dietician these questions.

TIA

I did a mix of pouches and BLW.
Aldi do some good baby dairy free options (porridge etc)
he didn’t take to it at first so I halted it for a few weeks then went back. We’re now out the other side and he’s tolerating dairy well at 19 months x

I also did a mix of pouches, BLW and just giving mashed up veggies etc and I did a load of meals from the Ella’s Kitchen cookbook (I think it was the purple one) that I adapted to be dairy free.
Always found there were plenty of dairy free pouch options for when we were out and about.
Weaning really helped with his reflux which was a bonus, and he took to food really well - possibly because the dairy free formula he was on smelt and tasted bile!

@OilyTussle thank you. Did you try any of the baby rice/porridge options? Any baby cereal?

When did you start weaning?

Hoping that weaning might help my LO's reflux too

@Antihistamine62 thank you. What section would the dairy free options be in? Is there a dairy free section or is it within the baby section? Glad to hear that he's tolerating dairy now - must make life so much more easier. When did you start weaning? X

The dietitian told me that CMPA babies usually start weaning earlier and to expect to start closer to 5 months than 6.

We started at 6 months and did a mix of home made blended food (puree), BLW and some pouches. There's no specific dairy free section; you'll have to get used to reading the ingredients on everything.
DD also went to nursery from 6 months and they fed her a very varied diet. She's 10 now and eats pretty much everything (excl dairy of course). Even as a baby she loved stuff like chili con carne etc.

We used the Organix porridge oats for ease, but also just used to put regular porridge oats in the blender to make them finer. At first we mixed with his formula, then by about 8 months we switched to using oat milk (which smelt a lot better). Never bothered with baby rice or cereal on the advice of the dietitian. I think other than porridge she recommended Weetabix to us, but I was a bit nervous if choking so we made it very mushy.
From memory we started a maybe a week or two before six months, but only cos he grabbed a load of food of my plate and had no issues with it.

I started at exactly 6 months but as I say it didn’t go well. So I stopped completely and then went back to it.
its within the baby section. I found the pouches handy for being out and about.
it does make life a bit easier but I’ll be honest I found the milk ladder completely overwhelming (not 100% sure why) so just did my own version of it. Offering small bits of dairy at a time rather than quartering biscuits etc. should add this isn’t me recommending others do this it’s just what worked for us x
