Yearly Performance Review

I run a busy school office and have been at my current school for 6 years. The head hasn’t really focused on performance reviews for support staff in the past and I know they are happy with my work.

The Multi Academy Trust have now asked for these reviews to be standardised and documented. They require each person to stipulate three SMART objectives for the year ahead.

I feel that I do my job well and to the best of my ability. I have no desire to be promoted and do not have capacity to take on any additional work. I already go above and beyond. I feel it should be acceptable to just do my job really well and not have to take on additional targets. How would you approach this situation?

You don't need additional targets, objectives aren't the same as targets.you don't need to take on any more work.

Your objectives can be based on your job, no need to do anymore.

I'll give you an example - in my dept we have a generic objective "contribute to the delivery of the work plan." Then each person puts "I will do this by xyz". Three or 4 bullets.

You could start with "contribute to the efficient running of the school. I will do this by [insert bits of job you do already]"

No. 2 - I will contribute to the school's legal requirements to safeguard the children by [insert things you already do eg overseeing SIMS, doing routine training, dealing with children kindly etc, or whatever your job duties are in this area ]

No 3 - something to do with finances, they'll love finances, if you're involved in this already. Otherwise I'd shape it around supporting the rest of the office team in a busy environment.

This is so helpful. Thank you.
