Non-fridge ideas for camping holiday

Ok, so normally when we go away to a festival we have gas fridges. We have now started using cool boxes for various reasons.

So usual lunches of quiche, cocktail sausages, falafel, cheese etc is questionable.

Need sensible alternatives - can be same selection of things daily if there's enough variety. All adults, catering for vegan, veggie and carnivores. Will have typical cereal / eggs etc for bfast and a hot cooked dinner but meal times can be precipitous so lunch needs to be solid.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Tinned soup is one, but not overly desirable if its really hot outside and not every day for a week.

I like to freeze sausages for the cool box and then barbecue them once they've defrosted. I bring hot dog buns (again you can freeze these) and ketchup and mustard.

I look forward to those hot dogs as much as the trip!

I mean I'd eat cheese, quiche, falafel out the fridge for a few days but I'm very liberal with food stuff.

Freeze chillis and bolognaise in bags. They last forever in a cool bix

When I go camping we eat a lot of pasta/gnocchi/toasted sandwiches done in the frying pan etc.

I would freeze some water bottles and keep mini sausages, quiche etc in there for a few days. Then have sandwiches with jam/peanut butter etc that doesn't need to be refrigerated and bring tinned food.

Noodles or pasta with jar sauce.
Tinned things other than soup - curry, for example, which you could have with rice.

We bought a camping fridge that plugs either in at home or cigarette lighter of the car. Best investment we made for days out and camping...

Tinned tuna / salmon for non veggies?
Cous cous - flavoured packets - only need boiled water.
Lentils - tinned or packets that can eat as they are.
Tins of mixed beans - can be the base of a salad
Tinned/ jarred hot dog sausages.
Jelly pots/ custard pots/rice pud pots.

We load the eski with ice and it is still frozen after 3 days.

I pack a chilli / curry type meal that I freeze and pack frozen. Min sausages / quiche etc will be fine if you keep the box cool enough.

Tins of dolmades make a good cold lunch.

The tinned section in M&S is your friend. And sachets of microwave rice which you can heat in a pan with a splash of water.

Batchelors Super Noodles (or supermarket alternatives) kept me going on many a DofE camping expedition. They go with a lot of other things as well and are relatively flat-pack.

Have fun! x
