Starting up a new business when your aged late 50’s early 60’s

Hi all mumsnetters

Looking for some inspiration.

I am seeking to read about the experiences of anyone starting and running a successful part/time or full- time business when aged late fifties and older. I am longing to do this and not afraid of hard work, but afraid I am too old. Hearing of others successes would really give me another perspective.

I would love to hear from those who have

achieved this.

I trained as a remedial hypnotist in my late 50's. Having lots of life experience helps!

I really think it depends on the type of business.

Not quite the same, but if you have a look at threads on the

Mature Study and Retraining board

you’ll get some idea of the sort of challenges people have faced when starting out on a new venture in middle age or older.

I ran my small business part-time while I was working to build a client base, then went to full time. It's a craft-based business and I'm late 50s. You're not too old to do your own thing! Just a couple of points though - it's not for everyone; it can be lonely at times, which you have to be comfortable with; you will work harder than you'd ever work for someone else, and have to pace yourself to avoid burnout.
