How much would you expect to pay for these kids activities

Trying to compare the local costs to the costs others pay for some kids activities. I'm curious to know how much you'd expect/be willing to pay for each of these activities and where you live. Children in question are about 4/5

1 - Swimming (30min)
Private 1-2-1
Private 2-2-1 (for both children)
Swim class in a group

2 - Tennis (45min - 1 hour)
Private 1-2-1
Private 2-2-1
Group "mini hitters" session

3 - Ballet (45 minutes, 2 times a week)
Group session

How much would you expect and be willing to pay for these?

Swimming... I paid £30 a month for a group lesson. Taken over the year... that was about £7.20 a lesson.

I would expect a private lesson to be at least 5x that much (for one or two children).

Private 1 hour swimming lesson in Dublin for 2 children €55.

Swimming 121 will be expensive £25
Tennis £18
ballet £7.50

Swimming we pay £392 per term, per child for 1:2. Think that’s ~£32 per lesson. My eldest did 1:1 and we paid £660 a term for that 2 years ago so it’s probably £700ish now. Never done large group lessons so no clue.

We pay £50 per week for 3 kids to do a semi private tennis lesson so that’s ~£17 each.

Ballet is £15 per lesson but have to pay termly.

We’re in Zone 2 London.

Singleandproud · 25/04/2024 18:42

Group swimming was £7 a lesson
121 was £30
£32 a month comp swimming 5 x lessons a week

Recreational group tennis x 1 hour £6

Ballet - we paid £32 a week for an unlimited number of classes in dance, drama and singing. I think individually they were £7

Rugby is the best value sport we've done £70 for the year, £5 each, t shirt and shorts, £7 each socks and gum shield, £20 hoody, £40 boots

This is more like what we are dealing with in SW London!

£100 to £160 per week.

Elephantswillnever · 25/04/2024 18:52

It’s £22 a month for weekly group lessons ( council run)

I think it’s about £17 for a half hour private lesson.

Tennis is £7 for an hour after school ( group) £25 a day for 9-3 holiday camp, unsure about private lessons.

Ballet costs £4.50 a lesson payable termly plus
exam fees

Elephantswillnever · 25/04/2024 18:54

Gosh I think I’m the cheapest 😁

Gloucestershire

private swimming £20-£35 a session
ballet £5 for half an hour group session
not sure about tennis

Scotland, rural but there are several market towns close by. Lots of cheap grass roots sports initiatives run by locals. For example rugby is £30 for a year for weekly lessons and mini sports camps in the holidays. That covers insurance mainly coach is paid for by the local rugby team through fundraising/ grants.

Ballet is pretty cheap to but the room hire is subsidised by a grant to help keep prices affordable, the local wind farm has a fund for community projects. Really I’ve found if you want affordable activities you want to find motivated people who are good at filling out forms.

SE London, zone 5

Swimming: DD only did group lessons but small ones, up to 5 children. We paid on average £100 per term

no tennis

Dance: £80 per term for one class per week. Exam fees, additional lessons the term prior to exams, new shoes for exams and strict uniform requirements add up. That was one reason we stopped as it got ridiculous.
DD moved to a musical class with a lot relaxed feel and no extra fees apart from the termly ones.

tywysoges · 25/04/2024 19:41

Swimming 1-2-1 was £30 for half an hour when we did it 6-7 years ago (SE England)
Group lessons we used to pay £24/month up until last year when DD stopped (South Wales)

Tennis, group lesson, paid per term but works out between £8-£9 a lesson (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿)

Ballet was £5-£6 a lesson but, again, many many years ago (SE England). Would expect to pay more around the £8 mark these days, maybe a bit less per lesson if doing multiple lessons.
