Help, best pet vacuum please

Hello,

We bought a pet hoover vacuum in Sept and it is beyond awful. It does not even pick up bits off the carpet and we didn't have a dog then (just rubbish carpets!) I am done with it and keen not to check good money after bad. It had great reviews on here but not for us.

Any ideas please of what works? Looking at Shark or Vax possibly. The Shark Stratos one looks good but pricey. Any thoughts/recommendations from those that have small/medium white dogs and kids!

Thanks
PP!

When I had carpets I used to have a Miele cylinder vacuum, there’s one specifically for pets. Absolutely brilliant, so powerful it could literally lift the carpet up. It is a plug in unfortunately, but if you want something that’s guaranteed to do the job I can vouch for it.

I now have laminate everywhere due to having 3 dogs, so much easier.

Thank you @Snippit ! I have head good things about Miele. Would prefer cordless (then the kids are more likely to use it too!).

A non-recommendation for the Vax Pet Air Stretch Max (or some arrangement of those words); bought one on the strength of various GH type glowing reviews and it lasted about six months before giving up the ghost.

The corded Miele Cat and Dog cleaners are the nuts, but we have two very, very hairy dogs who could fill a bag within two days so I've reluctantly always gone for Dyson bagless - until falling down a Which? rabbit hole and ending up with a Samsung Jet 95 which seems pretty good so far!

Thank you so much @eileandubh , I appreciate the non recommendation. Particularly having just bought one in sept that is rubbish. Now looking at the samsung. Thank you!

Any more thoughts on good pet vaccs (cordless ideally) or ones to avoid? thoughts on the Shark Stratos?

Sebo. Viscous suction. Wicked filters. The bags come with little lids to put on top when you change them.

Thanks you @ladymalfoy45

We've got the Vat Blade 4 Pet, or something like that. It's great.

Cordless are not really good enough for pet fluff. Friend has a shark and several pets and hates it! Says everywhere needs going over 2 or 3 times to even be acceptable. I have the Miele - yes they are expensive but the are proper workhorses. I have 2 (greedy I know but I bought one for work to replace the utterly pathetic henry) one of which is over a decade old and still going strong.

Thanks @SleepingisanArt and @idontlikealdi

Does it have to be a 'stick' type? We have been happy with a corded Shark normal upright for picking up pet hair. The cylinder is detachable and comes with a mini 'carpet' style beater attachment so you can vacuum furniture/stairs etc.

Stumpedasatree · 26/04/2024 13:46

I love the Miele cat and dog but get so annoyed when you put it away you can’t seem to fit the hose into the holder on the side or front of it without it falling off and making a massive crash! We’ve had the same issue with 2 of these vacuum cleaners.

Watching for some cordless recommendations.

I have a thing about hoovers, my sons say they will have she loved to hoover on my gravestone lol.
Corded hoovers a more of a faff but definitely have the best suction and pick up more pet hairs, cordless or okay but do not pick up all the hairs only surface hair.
I have a Sebo corded hoover (fantastic)
I have a cordless Dyson for whizzing around if I haven't got time to hoover properly before I go out, then I will use the Sebo when I get back. Sebo also has a very long cord and bags so it saves all the dust and mess of bagless.
I also have a gtech air ram for downstairs as it's only a little hall as we come in the street door and saves me carrying hoovers up and down.
I have had a lot of hoovers over the years these are definitely the best three.
I hope this helps.

Copperoliverbear · 27/04/2024 07:07

Forgot to say I also have three dogs.

someon · 27/04/2024 07:21

I have 2 black Labs and there hair gets everywhere.
Ive had a Shark and a Dyson the Dyson is a stick type cordless but i now just use that for upstairs where the dogs don't go . The Shark ive had 2 of those hoover and found the just don't pick up got rid of them

The best hoover i have had which I've gone back to is my Henry you can get a Pet one but my one id the normal Henry its brilliant best hoover around for pet hairs and it has a bag and its easy to change

Coolblur · 27/04/2024 07:36

Based on extensive research (exciting stuff!),I bought a Henry pet vacuum after our Dyson pet cylinder vacuum died. The Henry is very good, and has a really long cord, but it falls over easily, is a bit heavy, and difficult to balance on stairs. There's a reason so many cleaners use them!
The Dyson cylinder was good too, but lost suction after a while.
I absolutely would not recommend the Dyson stick vacuum. Ours was rubbish, far inferior to the cylinder one. And it hurt my hands and wrists to use.

BigBundleOfFluff · 27/04/2024 08:26

I have a golden retriever and the amount of stuff my Miele cat and dog picks up is horrifying. It is corded though.
I did get a cordless one - a Gtech one - the motor gave up within weeks so even though it was super convenient, I'd never get cordless again.

Donna8876 · 15/01/2025 23:45

I also purchased the vax blade pet cordless it doesn't pick up anything, You have to sweep the floor before you use it. Waste of nearly £300 do not buy one
