What the hell is this on my Facebook?

This came up, and I don’t know why I didn’t scroll past. The text is bad enough, but what’s going on in the illustration?

I thought the daughter was offering her mother a cigarette

Daughter thinks she’s showing her mum a positive pregnancy test (she also pointed out the dirty knickers on the floor)

My friend thinks the mum is giving her daughter a razor to shave her legs. That well known family activity

any other ideas.

lighthearted, obviously

Surely a razor? It looks much too big for a pregnancy test or cigarette.

RemarkablyBrightCreature · 24/04/2024 17:27

The text is truly awful. What saccharine shite 😩

Spirallingdownwards · 24/04/2024 17:27

Razor

Look at mum's hairy legs. It's surely (along with the words) symbolising having to care for a parent as they grow older or can no longer care for themselves through dementia?

AnthuriumCrystallinum · 24/04/2024 17:31

I think a lot of these are posted by spam bot accounts, hence the increase in posts that make no sense whatsoever.

FB themselves say that 4-5% of their active users are likely to be AI powered spam accounts.

VivaciousRadish · 24/04/2024 17:54

That makes sense @AnthuriumCrystallinum as I seem to be getting loads of weird, badly written ‘heartfelt’ (if that’s the word) posts, all written by ordinary sounding names, not businesses. Obviously I don’t follow any of the pages. What’s the point? How is anyone benefitting from it?

I genuinely don’t use Facebook for this, just a local page, and a couple of Etsy sellers groups. I never see posts from friends anymore

My first thought was cigarettes too but a razor would make more sense with the hairy legs!

Cherryana · 24/04/2024 18:20

…”be gentle with your mother”
stage directions: drop the razor in the bath and elecrocute her

A perfect Brechtian twist- and I thank you!

AccountCreateUsername · 24/04/2024 18:24

I think it’s a razor too. The poor downtrodden mother doesn’t even have time to shave her legs or pits! Obviously she’s been brought so low…

Shiningout · 24/04/2024 18:34

It looks like an epilator!!! Fucking weird picture tho

To get interactions with their page basically and build up likes, to sell the page itself eventually or to sell their services or sometimes for dropshipping purposes. The one you’ve posted is a medium scammer so will be wanting interactions on their posts and family type shit is the medium niche type thing and an easy way to farm likes

Heliss · 24/04/2024 19:07

What a weird picture for so many reasons! Who would ever sit in the bath like that?

I'm not 100% sure what the point is, but I think it's something to do with FB's algorithms seeking to promote engagement - in any form!

Interesting overview for those interested

Bad AI art is overrunning Facebook

Buying stuff on Marketplace and laughing at bad AI are the only things that can draw me, a millennial, onto Facebook these days.
