Walking pads - any thoughts..?

I’m fat. I struggle to get to the gym. I work from home, busy (sedentary) job, small children etc.

is this the answer??

I know they are marketed at homeworkers who like a standing desk but i don’t think this would work for me - I don’t think I could work and walk at the same time. But I could use it while watching tv of an evening or listening to a podcast.

any thoughts? Anyone had their life changed by a walking pad?

…can you run on them?

No you can't run on them,
Not really. Clue is in the name!

I sent like back as alas, it made me feel very sick. Like I'd been on a boat. So bear that in mind if you suffer from any kind of motion sickness

I got one last week I have only used it a few times I'm planning to get into the right headspace and start using it regularly from tomorrow. Mine goes up to 8 kph which is fast for me as I absolutely don't run ever!

MegsNaiceJam · 24/04/2024 00:00

I like the idea of one, but I suspect I wouldn’t use it. I have used a stepper before, used to do 1,000 steps a day whilst watching tv or waiting for dinner to cook. Think my knees are too knackered for that now.

They’re pretty expensive 😩

Can you raise them up so you’re walking on an incline?

I can run on mine. But I'm a really slow runner! Hasn't made me feel sick at all but you need to focus (and keep the remote switch in your hand).
If you put it out in the morning so it's ready, and just hop on every time you have 5 mins it will build up.

MistressIggi · 24/04/2024 00:04

Most of them don't have inclines, no. You're wanting a treadmill for that (more £££).
Mine was about £170

PrincessFionaCharming · 24/04/2024 00:07

Oh I don’t have space for a full on treadmill. I like the idea that I can fold up the pad

Mine doesn't have incline. I don't get motion sick on mine thankfully but I do need to stand still for a moment once it stops as I feel really woozy 😂. I need to lose a couple of stone and I'm really unfit/lazy. I'm unable to get to a gym or even out properly walking as I work school hours and I have a 6 year who I obviously can't leave alone so I thought I'll try this. Stuck it in front of the TV and I did enjoy it for a couple of days but have been slacking since.

MistressIggi · 24/04/2024 00:11

Most of them don't fold (though I know some do). They're just small enough and thin enough to fit under sofas and beds. (And not too heavy to move)

WhatsitWiggle · 24/04/2024 00:19

I used mine a lot over the winter - would stick the TV on and walk for an hour each evening. It goes up to 10kph so I can run-on it as I'm slower than this! No incline, and it's too high to fit under my sofa so measure carefully.
