Does anyone know how I can get help filling in a PIP form?

I've sat down half a dozen times to do it and just don't know how.

It's all about points and how things effect you and I'm pretty sure my life would qualify for it but I'm so scared of doing it wrong.

Citizens advice bureau.

Age Uk have a form service, or you could try getting an appointment with your social prescriber at your gp practice. Sometimes libraries will help too.

Citizens advice bureau.

I've read the wait list is huge and they only give you a certain amount of time to fill it out.

Speak to your local office. That doesn't sound right to me. I have volunteered at CA and I never knew them to have a time limit on filling in the form. You can also ask the DWP to extend the time limit for submitting the form if you can't get an immediate appointment and advise them that you have an appointment with CA to complete the form. Obviously it is at their discretion to extend the time but if you have a definite appointment then they may do so.

Age UK - much more knowledgeable than CAB

There is a time limit, and the CAB have a huge backlog for appts in many places

Citizens advice will help you . Do you have any charity organisations that is related to your condition? They might have an advisor.

Isn't that for elderly people though?

Would they not be just for older people?

Citizen's advice bureau are excellent for this

AgnesX · 23/04/2024 16:27

Depending on your condition one of the relevant charities might be able to help.

Read the accompanying guidance and how it applies to you on your worst days and draft it all out before actually filling in the form.

Don't expect to do it in half an hour, it will take a bit of time, so take your time, walk away and come back to it to make sure you include everything.

shellyleppard · 23/04/2024 16:28

Op i had help from the citizens advice bureau with my pip application..... they could have not been more helpful. No time limit either

Mrsjayy · 23/04/2024 16:28

That can help fill in. If you are struggling follow the advice notes a pp linked and answer every question as if it's your worst day.

If the waiting list is huge, all the more reason to get on it asap. Presumably the appointment slots are time limited, but that's likely to be the case anywhere.

My medical records just say Anxiety and depression.
But I'm awaiting an ADHD assessment.
I'm also waiting for talking therapy after CBT therapy.

But I don't leave the house. I can't go anywhere alone so it's quite extreme.
I do all my shopping online. I literally don't go to the corner shop.

Find your local Citizens Advice here:
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/contact-us/contact-us/#h-find-your-nearest-citizens-advice

Look on their website, many have online contact forms you can fill in. Tell them the deadline you've been given for returning the PIP form, what medical conditions you have, and whether you prefer a phone or F2F appointment.

They will help you if you can, and if they don't have an appointment available before your deadline, you can call the PIP helpline to request an extension.

CABs who offer this service are likely to have phone appointments available.

Mrsjayy · 23/04/2024 16:34

Google mental health charities in your area it can be an advocacy service or befriending; email them and ask if they have anybody to help with your form. A pp mentioned doing it in stages, this is good advice if you are doing it yourself. Does your Gp surgery have a mh service attached you can also contact them for advice on where to go for form filling

Skiphopbump · 23/04/2024 16:36

In my area it’s the money advice unit. If you call CAB they’ll direct you to the appropriate organisation if they aren’t able to help.
When you have an appointment make sure you have your evidence to help filling in your form.

Pedestriancrossing · 23/04/2024 16:36

Hi it may be helpful to look at charities that support people with the same conditions as you. For example I am partially blind and sought help for the PIP forms from RNIB. They have specific fact sheets for PIP forms going through the criteria that each question looks at.

JuanTabo · 23/04/2024 16:40

Not a free service but https://pipps.co.uk/ will help with the form, provide advocacy throughout the assessment and fight your corner if you ask for a mandatory reconsideration or need to appeal the decision. I think I paid about £100 ish in return for an award of £thousands in PIP over a few years so worth every penny.
